Have problems with change of front shocks

I'll switch to coilovers, but I have trouble getting off the strut in front.
It's stuck totally in the spider.
Have loosened everything I know to be loose.
Someone changed that can explain to me?

Haas: After you loosen the pinch bolt, you must drive a screwdriver or similar into the groove on the strut housing, to relieve the pressure. Some oil wouldn't hurt. Just wiggle it and turn it back and forth, it'll come out.

Yep, what nikijack said. Spray a little penetrating oil around the strut base where it's in the spindle and then spread that thing apart a little with either a screwdriver or they make a special spindle housing spreader tool which I used. I've tried every tool I have to loosen the pressure on the strut housing.
Is amazing how hard things can sit that should not to do that..
It all would have been easier if everything is completely resolved, but the tool appears to facilitate a lot.

There is a 1/2 socket bit tool that has an oval bit(profile). It fits in the gap of the spindle and you turn it 1/2 a turn to spread open the spindle/hub. Then the strut slides out.

Really need help here, in the middle of a failed camber plate install (spring compressor sucks), and i'm trying to remove the front left strut to take it in to a shop, but it's stuck. I trying spreading it with a large screw driver, and that didn't work. I'm worried about trying to spread with further because i don't want to break the spindle. How wide can i spread it?

I used a 6-10mm(don't remember the exact size) hex socket in a breaker bar to spread the knuckle.

I'm going to try that, does the strut just pop loose when the knuckle is wide enough?

My car only had 2k miles on it so it came out with no problems. But yes, I just twisted the hex socket and pulled it out.

thanks, that really worked, used a 6mm then a 8mm hex socket. Also needed to lightly wedge it open with a large screw driver to lift the strut out.

Just use the allen wrench trick today. Worked when pry bars and screw drivers wouldn't. Thanks for the tip.
