I have updated the How To, which you can find here at http://www.zen102337.zen.co.uk/nav/addingpoi.htm to hopefully make things clearer and easier to understand.

I have also added instructions on just using file copies and Nero Burning Rom if you don't want to get involved in using ISO images.

They use ultra edit instead of vedit. ultraedit is a freeware. Does it works correctluy. Has anyone uses ultraedit?

if i insert the DVD. The display shows "Please insert the Navi DVD"
Have someone the same Problemns with the 2006-02 DVD?

2006-02 works just fine. PM me or drop me a note via the feedback form on the HOW To site and I'll see if I can see what the problem is.

The 2006-02 works only with the UltraIso method by me. The Nero method doesn't work by me.

I have just walked thru this thread and am amazed by all the work you guys have done. Correct me if I have misread this, but the provided instructions show you how to manually edit in new POIs based on data you still need to get yourself. Is it possible to create/share predone executable files that will do this automatically (ie share executable files for adding European speed cameras, San Francisco POIs). The easiest way would be to share the modified iso files done by various users, but I realize that the copyright issues will probably prevent this even though we all own the original discs. Apologies if this is already covered but most of the thread exceeds my computerese.

Regarding asc format file,in comparaison of mine and the test one from Mathmos, Her is mine ,with fives numbers after the comma
-4.40181, 48.39111, "RF0001-090km/h-R"
-1.96250, 48.18697, "RF0002-110km/h-R"
Your test file has only four numbers after the comma, and i have not the country. Are these problems ?

You can edit any of the languages you want as per the steps outlined previously but note that if you want to be able to display the icons on the screen then you will need to edit the default language .lsc file as well which is defined by the number in step b)

I applied the whole procedure, and when I wanted to record the file with ultra edit , message :
"The trial version cannot record files greatter than 300 M"!!!!!!
Note : I've got 2006DVD 5302 and there are little difference I ll communicate to you soon

To day I have bought ultra edit. I have engraved two DVD (one DVD+R and ond DVD+RW) I'll check to morrow (I'll get my car on friday 14 30. fine?

Wonderful was yesterday.
I ve tried burned DVD -DVD+R and DVD+RW I've prepared. THe system tells me "please insert nav DVD"... so 1 DVD scratched...
I made other trial. create image with DVD decrypter, define properties of the image as on the procedure of mathmos site and burn the DVD with DVD DECRYPTER and it doesn't work. The system ask me "insert the DVD"
What do you think about it. where have I to search.
on another hand, my nex car is a very good one but the GPS is the same as Tom TOm navigator...... in1995...

What I'd suggest is

1) Use good quality DVD media
2) Burn your DVD at a slow speed
3) Create an image of your real NAV DVD (make sure settings are as shown in image method at http://www.bmwnavaddpoi.co.uk/ )and then straight away burn this image to DVD and see if this copy works

If 3) does not work still then please state exactly with as much detail as you can, the steps you are going through to a) create the image and b) write it back.

I was sucessfull with the 11 th DVD burned !!!
The procedure I used regarding burning difficulties.
1 create an image from the original BMW DVD with ultra edit.
2 Modify the image as describe by mathmos at http://www.bmwnavaddpoi.co.uk/
3 burn the DVD with Alcohol downloaded at
http://poi.ravestation.net/mkiv/eng_02_avanzado.html
4 Try in the car.
5 Kiss everyone around ...

Because I ve found a sucessful procedure, and I had a great budget for DVD scrapping...

I 've tried to create a 9020 with Fixed Camera, and for the fun a 9050 with my own POI.
I' ve burned the DVD and... All is ok

I had a little mistake (one DVD) cause the name of gif file was in capital letter and not in minute, and I changed the gif file (mine seemed to be too big)

If some one has usable *.gif files it shoul be fine

I have tried to burn a DVD with DVD decrypter and Sony DVD+RW.
I'va also changes the gif files with bigger (one is 1297 octets/digit) another one is 871 and all works fine.
That means that the main thing is DVD qualit. For me Verbatim DVD+R or DVD+RW don't work, that was my problem.

Next trial
CD+RW sony dont like hot weather. Not at all...

I would like to thank Mathmos and Jav for the great work they have done. I have followed the excellent guide by Mathmos and it worked the first time.

I have a small problem though, when I activate the information button a couple of times the screen went blank and then the BMW logo appeared. Looks like the system rebooted. After a minute or so nav seems to work fine, perhaps it's the quality of the used dvd? I will try another one.
