2008 128i - Missing USB

Hi everyone,

I'm a new to this forum and BMWs having just picked up a new (to me) 2008 128i. The car has less than 14000km on it so it really is very new feeling. Having an amateur motorsport background I can tell you that, wow, I love this car. I now know what they say that BMWs are built for drivers.

Anyway, back to my question. My 128i has an audio input jack under the armrest but no USB jack. I thought they came with the USB jack since the beginning. Am I wrong? Would it be jumping through hoops to add one?

The USB port was a OPTION. It was not standard.

You can add a USB port... buts it is costly at about $500. You can look on RealOEM.com for the kit. or talk to your BMW dealer. Or do a search here.

Okay! That was quick. Thanks for the answer. I poked around realoem.com at your suggestion and found the interface retrofit kit. I agree with you, $500 is a bit costly for an iPod interface.

Not only that, if it's like the 3 series your radio has to be re-coded to support it. Of course only BMW dealers can do that and they want to charge obscene amounts to 10 minutes of work on their part... (I called two different dealers and got $400 and $600 just for the coding, thank you but AUX is fine...).
