Sleep deeply, my little E90
Does anyone know the details of the E90's sleeping habits?
I find it interesting that when the car is shutdown for a period of time (after all, this thing is less a mechanical car than a digital propulsion device with wheels. So you don't turn it off, you shut it down.), the indicators for the start button and Steptronic gear are turned off. But more interesting to me is that when the car has been in a deep sleep and you open the door, you can hear a motor whirring in what sounds to me like the trunk. What the heck is that? And if anyone else knows what goes on waking up (or going to sleep), I think it'd be pretty interesting to know. |

hahaha, i know what you're talking about. i hear the sound in the trunk too. what it is? i have no idea. iirc, the e90 goes into stand-by mode after you turn it off, and after a longer period of time goes into a shut down mode until somebody enters the car again.

The fuel pump is 'PRIMING' itself. This ensures that your car will start up flawlessly without any hickups.
Older cars did the same thing, the only difference is they primed themselves when you first put the key in and turned the key to the ON position (not starting it). |

That's the Steptronic gearbox that's making that sound. I quite sure MT cars don't do that. And that only happens after 10 to 15 mins idle time (not 100 percent positive)

sometimes, after I close the doors, but don't lock the car, it makes some whirring noises coming from the engine bay too. It'll make random whirring noises as I clean my car... so strange.

MSCA here. I work with the network guys all the time here and let me tell you they earn their pay. Our network is like spaghetti and I dont know how they keep traffic flowing properly. I'm an enterprise admin for the Southwest Asia (Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Afghanistan) DoD network.

I hear that too all the time, but thought it was from the DVD area. But had our X5 in the shop and had a loaner, and that did not have Nav, and it did it too. Since my dog does the same thing, never gave it much thought!!!
