n55, ticking lifter?
Hi there, I've got a n55 with 22k miles on it. I started it today 3 times when cold.. this morning, at lunch, and after work. all three times, I have the sound of a sticky/leaking lifter, that quickly went away (a few seconds).
I check my oil level (electronically), and it read "ok" Has anyone else had this on a n55 or 54 for that matter? Thanks! b |

Don't worry, it is not your lifters. It is actually the fuel injectors. Direct injection is extremely noisy.

Btw OP... how often do you change your oil? I am just curious. This is one more reason why I do frequent oil changes. But I still say the ticking sound you are hearing is the Direct Injection. Dack |

Thanks guys...b/c that tappet/lifter issue with the N52 drove me nuts. Plus, the SA and BMW were in denial and it's not easy to explain engineering (hydraulic valve adjusters, camlobes, & tappets) to someone who does not give a crap, even though they had issued a few TSBs. I didnt think it applied to the N54. Changing my oil every 7500 mi.

So if it was just DI, why would it just start happening lately, and only on start up for a few seconds?
