1M vs C7 Corvette Stingray?

Anyone entertaining the thought of turning the tide and switching out of our beloved 1M's to the new 2014 Corvette Stingray's?

I don't think I will be because I feel the 1M is powerful and unique enough for me, however, my brother might pick one up and judging from all the reviews I read, it's an incredible bang for your buck and looks fantastic.

Thoughts?

1m's are limited. Why would you trade it?

What does the fact that it's limited really mean for you? Are you planning on flipping it later for some extra cash? Or is the fact that it's limited important because you won't see many of them on the street? For me it's the latter...I realize that in a few years you're going to see many many of these C7 corvettes on the street and they're not going to feel very special but that doesn't really change the fact that their performance and looks are exceptional.

For around 55k or so, you're getting 460hp, 0-60 in 3.9sec I believe and and rock solid chasis/suspension (c7 curb weight is about 31lb lighter than 1M). You have to admit that its' performance is great, and I've read several reviews of it's track performance being just as great.

There will no longer be any more 1M's whereas there will be thousands of these new corvettes, but if you're someone that's really looking for extra power, do you look at this corvette as a viable choice or hold out and see how the next M3/M4 can stack up against it?

I would never buy the first production year. This goes for the next generation M3.

You should probably lookup TopGear review of American muscle cars from a few years back, that sums it up for me at least.... they look great on paper, not so good in real life, good noise makers though if that's what you are after.

GM really went out of the box with the C7 development. It's an impressive car including the seats.

A Top Gear review of an entire range of vehicles does not hold much water. The new Mustang, for instance, is an excellent vehicle. The C7 looks to also be a home run, especially for the money.

I agree with the poster above about waiting out the first year. That being said, the C7 is really in a different segment compared to the 1M and isn't really something that can be fairly compared.

Except that Clarkson reviewed the new Mustang this season and came to the exact same conclusion.....

The cost savings has to some from somewhere, typically that is refinement on things such as fit, function and overall interior quality. Having not seen the C7 in person I'll reserve judgement until I can generate an informed opinion, however, from the pictures I've see this does not seem to have changed.

If you like the image/ looks/ quality/ practicality of the vette I'd say go for it. It's solid engineering, great bang for the buck, faster than the 1M in nearly every way. One can expect a Z51 to be a whopping ~45 seconds faster than a 1M on the 'Ring, so for similar money to a used 1M it's hard to argue against if none of the above are issues.

Personally I can't even really consider it, vetoed on the image/ looks/ quality/ practicality tradeoff that don't quite make it an option. Mechanically and quality wise it may well be good enough, but no back seat and rear-end styling done by an eight year old with a crayon pretty much seal the deal for me. One could also argue the 1M will hold resale (much) better, but otherwise if the looks float your boat I'd say seriously consider the Vette.

I have NEVER wanted to own any corvette but the new C7 is a huge step up for GM and is the best corvette to date IMO. It is a very different everyone should own a V8 at some point in their life so I'd say go for it and sell me your 1M at a good price

i am not looking at the vette however in terms of real world performance, the new vette would piss all over our 1M's. These new ones do everything well and they are getting better with the fit and finish of the interior. Great car just not my cup of tea.

(VALLEY GIRL VOICE)... gag me with a spoon..... seriously....

Will the C7 be a "performance bargain"? Sure. the C6 already is.. a Ford Mustang GT has great "bang for the buck".. but I sure don't want one...

You bought the first production year of 1M! M3 is never "first year" for 3 series either...
