Owned a STI and one of the best cars I have ever driven. Loathed the looks though. Never understood why they couldn't produce something easy on the eye. I reckon they would have a winner on their hands if they produced this concept without doubt

I ordered white with black rims. Which sounds to constitute the vast majority of orders (and thus potential cancellations) |

Nice choice. I like the grey, but need a change. Thinking the black 1st pref, then white. But would probably take any colour that was offered on a short lead time. Are you planning on trading in, or private sale ?

If I was to order another car in this category (what is this category by the way, 5 door wagons, sloppy bum sedans and coupes?) I woul go the 235, manual, available in march and RWD. Oh yeh, similar money to a A45 I suggest, including optioning up the 235 to the max (after discounts from BMW).

I would to if I hadn't been driving pretty much to the same thing for 3 years. The 235 should be a nice ride, but I need a change. IMHO, the 235 looks too similar to the 1er. More refined, yes... But way too similar

I definitely agree with you Scoobs. The new 235, while it does look clean and well proportioned, is too very safe and certainly doesn't look 7 years newer in design or technological development over the 135i most people have on this forum. It is a nice renewal of the model, but doesn't feel a great deal of an upgrade in getting a new car.

Scoobs - I'll sell the 135i on the private market. Sure to get a few extra grand for it that way. I need a few months to demodify the car anyway. Unfortunately my CLA will likely get here around next winter which will be a turd of a time to try to sell a convertible 135.

Saw an A45 on the weekend, looked ridiculously over the top with all the red accents, carbon fibre and a big roof spoiler.
CLA looks like it's melting. They sound like they are bloody quick though. |

I swear im the only person in the world that doesn't think the A45 or CLA's are great?
To me the exterior styling is pretty ordinary (I think the cabin looks great though!) and the engine note sounds shit... At the end of the day they are quick, but so are sti's.... |

Admittedly the performance was slightly underwhelming compared to a modified 135i. The surge is less frenetic, and less low down torque which is what gets me around 80% of the time. |

I'm not completely sold on the looks either, nor the exhaust note (I think the 135i with a straight pipe sounds better). But it ticks the right boxes for me in that it is (marginally) practical with 4 doors and a boot, and solid performance right out of the box. Under $100k. Something that BMW does not have available. |

I know I sound like a broken record but a S3 is the better buy IMHO. Looks, kit and tunability...... And >$12,000 less cash than a 45.....Just sayin
(And who doesn't want a Bang & Ollefsen stereo?) |

I wasn't so sure about the looks either, which is why I dropped into MB to take a look and see what all the hype was about. Looks much better in the flesh. Yet to drive one yet, but read plenty of reviews, and most are pretty glowing. Looks wise, the CLA45 is a bit like the 1er... Looks great from some angles, not so good from others. But this very subjective of course. My cars are DD, and don't see the track. But they have to be quick
If I had never owned a 135, I would certainly be looking at the 235, but.. There is no way I could buy essentially the same cars back to back. Variety is the spice... Up until now thre was nothing under $150k I was remotely interested in. If I had a double garage I would keep the 135 as the pay out is $38k, and it is still a lot of car for that money. I hear the new STI gets unveiled this week in L.A. This may also be a contender if it is anything like the concept. S3 does nothing for me unfortunately |
