Hi,
In the Lakeside thread, Tim reckoned I should introduce myself and my cars, so here goes.... My name is Ian and I like sipping pina coladas, long walks on the beach....bzzzzzt....oops...wrong website Actually the only true bit there is my name. Currently I have two rides, but I should back track a little: Up until a year ago, I had a very nice E36 328i Highline Coupe in Cosmos Schwarz with Champagne Nappa Leather and Woodgrain. It also doubled as a track car, which was its eventual undoing: so I had to decide my future. First thing was to get a new daily driver. I had planned my next car to be a 135i, however throwing a car away with no insurance meant I had to lower the sights a little. (not too far tho) Enter a 2000 330ci manual, also in Cosmos Schwarz: I didn't like the stance or the wheels, so I fitted Bilsteins and Kings springs, and then added the staggered Style 32s from the E36. So, that taken care of, what was I going to do with the remains of my E36? Well, in the pic of my garage above, you can see an E30 shell gathering dust. That looks like a decent home. I essentially started the project in November andsort of "changed" the E30 a little. First up was suspension and brakes. Queue the coilovers and control arms from the E36 on the front, topped by the E36 M3 brakes. Also had to make custom control arm mounts to correctly position the front wheels. This was followed by E36 compact trailling arms so I ended up with E36 5 stud wheels all round. It needed some motive power, so since the M52 2.8 was just sitting there, I thought I'd throw it in the engine bay Bolted up behind the motor is a 5 speed close ratio dog-leg box, and a 3:46 LSD. Since I had the E46, this could be a little more track orientated, so the cage and seats were fitted It was finally ready in mid June, for the Club track day at Morgan Park After that, I had to register it so I could display at Motorfest Followed by a trip to Willowbank It ran a 14.4 straight out of the box, but with a 99 mph terminal speed, it should be good for high 13s. So that's 'BumbleBee' my little toy...8 months in the making. |

In other news, I have been in BMW Club Qld since 1991, and in 2000 I took on the presidency. Strangely enogh, they must like what I'm doing, coz I'm still there.
Also, I am currently National Chairman of BMW Clubs Australia, representing over 3000 BMW car and motorcycle owners. Please feel free to ask any questions about the Club movement and the benefits of membership. Ian

Nice cars Mr Prez!
Lovely that you're here, but sadly as someone more famous and intelligent than me once said: I couldn't possibly join a club that would have me as a member! |

thats true, car clubs are full of wankers just like web forums.
Actually I was in the Capri Car Club for a while. Nothing wrong with us, apart from everyone thinking they were either Bodie or Doyle. Welcome, and nice models by they way too.

Welcome El Presidente.
Great effort on the E30 buildup, turned out very nice indeed. Quote:

I can vouch for the speed of Ian's old E36 328 at the track. The much lighter FrankenE30 certainly ain't gonna be slower!

Haven't weighed the E30 yet, but I expect it to be somewhere near 1000 - 1050 kg. Hopefully I'll see something near 1:02 in October. Ian
