Riss Racing Full Stage 3 Intake (videos/pics/info)
The N54 motor has a very unique design. Just like the RB26DETT (Skyline), it has a parallel twin turbo set-up. Basically what this means is that each turbo is driven by half of the engines spent exhaust energy. You can see this when looking at the exhaust manifold on the N54:
See how each turbo has a separate manifold from 3 of the 6 cylinders. This means that one turbo cannot work harder than the other – they both must do their job equally. This is very important to consider when designing an intake system since efficiency is determined by the weakest link. In other words, if one turbo is getting more air than the other, the engine must regulate to match the turbo getting less air so they are working together. Not only is the efficiency of the turbos dependent on the amount of air, but also the density of the air. The amount of power transferred to a turbine is directly proportional to the size of the turbine blades, to the DENSITY of the air, and the cube of the air intake volume. This is why BMW uses a single plenum design on the N54. Each turbo is able to get the same air density and air volume enabling the motor to run efficient. Of course there is always room for improvement. Riss Racing has created the first and only Ram Air Plenum Design Intake on the market for the N54. The intake was designed with one thing in mind…power. Of course there are the additional bonuses of hearing your twin turbos breathe freely with no restrictions from the intake side. The intake utilizes a large K&N oval shaped filter that pulls more than enough air into the center 3” plenum. From the center plenum, both turbos get THE SAME air density and a dramatic increase of air volume which promises for much better throttle response and overall performance. FULL STAGE 3 FINAL PRODUCTION RISS RACING INTAKE SYSTEM INSTALLED! Riss Racing Intake Stage 1 Installed on 135i Riss Racing Intake with PS bracket, and K&N filter. We now can really maximize the air brought in from the Riss Racing scoops. This new snorkel is close to double the flow capacity of the OEM system. :headbang: Installed on the car.... Installed with grills off.... SHIELD + PICS of scoops uninstalled will be ready this week. Riss Racing 135i Stage 3 - Intake / Air Scoops & Shield / Hard pipe & Diverter Valves. Does th 1 on the intake video have only the Intake or is the RR pipes and exhaust on it in the video as well? No videos of the intake and DDV together on a driveby yet?

On the DV, there are 3 springs options, what are the differences? is it just to adjust how it sound? and not related to performance?
Great Job on the intake! I think that's the biggest K&N filter I've ever seen :w00t: |
