Cashmere Silver Metallic
On the BMW website, Cashmere Silver Metallic looks pretty similar to Platinum Bronze Metallic (which has a tan tint to it that I don't care for).
I picked up my 1-series brochure from the dealer yesterday and that was my first time seeing a color swatch of CSM in person. The small swatch in the brochure doesn't appear to have any tan in it. Just to be sure though, I put the swatch on top of a Space Gray car, and it looked very similar. I originally wanted Space Gray, but they don't offer it for the 1. Unless you want to shell out an extra $5 - $10k (according to the dealer) for a special paint job. Sooooo, I'm keeping my order for CSM, all the while hoping that it is the closest color we can get to Space Gray. |

I think it's funny that you say that b/c I had the opposite reaction: the brochure color swatch looks alot darker/tanner/bronzer to me than the colors displayed in/on the build-your-own site!
Meanwhile, referring to an older post re: CSM on the convertible, I've been watching the promo clip repeatedly to see just how the color catches the light so I went w/it also: the soft & warmer ("cashmere?" *duh*) color, I felt, is a good transition from the chrome silver I drive now and the diamond graphite of my Dad's M35x. #2 on list. And now the wait. |

I agree that the brochure color is definitely darker than the build-your-own site but I couldn't see any tan in it. It's hard for me to tell with a sample that tiny though. :eyebulge:
What they really need to do is provide a decent size swatch that represents the actual metallic color that the car will have. I'm sure you noticed on your brochure that it had a disclaimer saying that the color swatch was just a representation, etc... The metallic flakes (missing from the brochure color) might give it even more of a tan hue. We also need someone to post a decent picture of a car in CSM while we still have time to change our minds! |

As noted in my other post, my dealer confirmed that the CSM does have a tan tint to it, and is basically a lighter version of the Platinum Bronze Metallic.
That's why I switched to TSM. |

That was my take also- but I actually like the color with the slight tan or platinum highlights. Staying with CSM. The series of convertible pics that feature the color make it look great esp. in bright sunlight.

Thanx for the update Night1; your info gave me pause and this thread has made me watch & re-watch the 1-series convertible promo video over & over & over again!
But if the convertible footage is an accurate representation of CSM, I'm prob. gonna commit to CSM... I see that "hint of tan" in the shadow (as the prev. post remarked about the direct sunlight) but when the dude opens the trunk to demo the ski-bag/pass-thru in the promo video, that's the color I dig the most... plus my current car is silver so I need to change it up |

they should have called it Champagne Silver, and let it go at that.
wtf color is cashmere anyhow? oh, yeah... it's just a fabric that can be any color. so yeah, that's perfect, its super-descriptive tonally, so let's name THIS color Cashmere Silver. Sounds uber-trendy, yeah? stupid marketing people. |

Yesterday, went to the dealer for service and met up with my CA and we talked about any word on the production date of my 1er.
He thru me the keys to the only 1 series the dealer had on the lot. A CSM 128i vert. Told me he knew it wasn't a 135i but what the heck have some fun and take it for a drive. This car was up on a display platform at the dealership. He backed it off and I went. I'm not into Verts. but put the top down and put it thru its paces. Was and Auto w/sport package and had good power but nothing like what a 135 would be. Tight handling though. I really took a hairpin hard and it did not flinch. Stuck like glue. CSM in person is nice. It's a neutral type color. Sort of like a light tan. Anyway, helped a little with regards to my wait for the 135. I'm a priority 1 but my dealership is getting about 16 1ers for the year. My CA is guessing production sometime in May and arrival in July. I hate the wait has me adding more options like Terra leather instead of Black 'ette. |

Depending on the lighting it can look beige or silver. But it is much different than titanium. It is very subtle and against a black top it looks great. The taupe interior that I have has both of these colors {biege and grey } but lighter than the body. I agree what the hell is cashmere.

Here's a photo that shows the color gradient pretty well. (And the date of the photo is actually 3.23.08, so it wasn't taken next Wednesday...) The color around the door handle - beneath the shadow line - is probably the best representation of its 'nominal' color.

If you're comparing cashmere silver to platinum bronze, I think you'll find the former is significantly lighter. PB would be a really nice color on the 1er, but alas...

I think CSM looks great in pics. If I could see it in person I might consider changing my order. I think I'll play it safe...

i think all the dealers got a CSM vert as a demo car. at least that's what it seems like.
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5780 you can find more pictures of CSM here. i ordered this color without seeing it in person. i took a big risk but i didn't like any of the other color options. i m glad i picked this color. no one else have it yet! |
