The front plate is a bs tax collector/money maker for the state. I can't see a valid reason for both front/rear. Someone convince me otherwise.

Identifying a vehicle from either direction (coming and going) seems like a valid reason. You may not agree that it's necessary, but it's valid.

Also, In my area, red light cameras are becoming more prevalent and it's the front plate they get.

Required and my response is sort of. I have a front plate, but it's my ED plate still. I'll wait until I get a fix it ticket.

My dealership actually makes the buyer sign a form stating that front license plates are required and that you as the buyer understand the law.

Yeah, you have to at least show them both to have it pass inspection. I'm not sure if both have to be mounted.

I've also been ticketed for it when I was pulled over for speeding. The cop implied that if I could have produced the plate (if it were in the trunk or something) that he would not have written the ticket for that. So, if you don't mount it I would, at least, keep it in the car.

I got a ticket once for not having a front license plate when I went to pick-up somebody at LAX & they had a random check point near there.

My state, North Carolina, doesn't require one so I will never have one on my wife's 330.

Wow, after all the voting and expressing opinions, the present results show that the "front plate issue" is split down the middle. It's a 50-50 result. I didn't expect that.

In Cali cops are a real bitch about the plates. My idea for now is to put neither of them on. I think the e90 looks like a brand new car and cops probably would think that it's new enough for the plates not to have arrived (which takes up 2 months). So I put neither the front or back plate on to keep the car lookin new.

It's a big state and you're apprently in an area where this is enforced, but that's certainly not the case everywhere. They don't seem to care around here.

I think the results of your poll are completely skewed because of all of the people that don't have to use front plates.

Ya def. location in Cali has a lot to do with it. In stuffed cities like Glendale and Burbank, a night out can be a real nightmare. The fun in driving has just be destroyed thanks to the swarms of cops out to get youngsters. I'm not sayin their cause is unjust, but it seems they have exploited the number of young drivers out there and caught every mistake by the tail.

A must here in Hawaii, but I see the import cars without and the plate on the dash instead. I can't see putting the plate on the dash versus the bumper so for now it will stay on the front until I move in 08'.

The car was DESIGNED to have a front plate. German car = mandatory front plate. This is one of those topics that piss me off quite a bit for no real reason other than people's ignorance and total disregard for the law.

Regarding the Pontiac Solstice comment, I totally agree. My dad bought a Solstice a couple months ago. My parents are Missouri residents (MO requires a front plate), but live in Kansas (no front plate required). Soooo, my dad just went ahead and titled the car in Kansas. The LEGAL way to get around this issue...

Well, I tried to avoid being criticized for not putting up the right sort of answers. Everyone always have an opinion, but I agree that I failed to list that *one* answer. Too late now.

* No. My state/country doesn't require it.

My provine, Nova Scotia, also does not require a front license plate. Thank goodness, I don't know if I'd be able to bring myself to put one on the front!
