Possible to add iDrive to non-iDrive 135i?

I'm looking for a used 135i and there are a few on the market now that would otherwise be perfect for me, however they have no iDrive!

Is it possible to add the iDrive or at least the navigation system after the car has already been built?

Also what extra benefits does iDrive give you other than sat nav?

iDrive gives you a user interface for the car.
1.)SatNav
2.)Bluetooth phone book display
3.)Audio controls for FM/AM/Sat/CD/ipod
4.)On board computer controls
5.)After March of '11 it will have the optional "BMW Connect"....
Basically, besides the nav, it gives you a nice color screen to do all the other car functions that one would control with the small gauge cluster screen or the dash radio screen. I had used the first generation iDrive, and the 2011 blows it away. I really like it and could not imagine owning the car without it.

I have only owned mine for a week, so if I missed something, I am honestly just trying to be helpful!

If you had a dealer agree to do it, I'd hate to see the cost. Personally I can do without it and concentrate on the reason I bought the car-the drive.

Bingo. If you want iDrive, buy an iDrive car. If you want Sat Nav you can always get an aftermarket solution.

It is possible to unlock the software on the BMW Nav so that it also has camera locations.

However this endeavour would cost more than a brand new Garmin.

There is a retrofit available for the e9x's so I'm sure these guys could do similar for 1ER.

You'll have to have a closer look at my Nav mate, fixed speed cameras, Red Light cameras and School zones on the screen.

Dunno how it would be done for the HDD nav but the DVD versions are doable.

Would be extremely useful. Always thought the BMW nav was lacking in anything other that direction giving.

Having all the restaurant's phone numbers saved is cool though, very convenient when I need to make a last minute booking change.

You might have to rummage through my boot at MDTC as there is a spare prof nav disk there I think with the cameras etc added

Digging up an old thread, it is actually possible to fit the satnav to a dash with out a storage bin/satnav compartment, BMW can supply the cut out template to fit it.

I still don't know why people get excited by BMW iDrive and Sat nav. If you owned one you would probably realize its a waste of space. Just get a Tom Tom and be happy!

I used to want one, but when I drive the X3 which has it I never touch it. I suppose I just wanted a screen to look cool. Now I'm glad I saved the $$!

It's the clean look and not having to stick and unstick something to the windscreen every time you want to use it.

I would love it but not worth the cost to install me thinks.

How is connecteddrive? I can see on the BMW page it looks like you can make your cars horn honk from the phone?
