LUX v3 h8 overheating?

hey guys. i have the lux v3 h8 and have been seeing the "external lighting failure" warning come up intermittently. i'm trying to see if this is being caused by the really hot weather we've been having lately. (105-110F)

i'm suspecting that heat is the reason because i made a night trip recently and the warning did not go off. only during the day.

any thoughts?

I've had the exact same problems with my LUX V3 kit. I'm in Phoenix, and its been averaging around 115 here during the day. The LUX V3 has ballasts that turn themselves off when they hit 100C, and its pretty easy to hit those kind of temperatures during the daytime around here, especially in a black car. I uninstalled mine a few days ago because they just wouldn't work in the heat. LUX offered me a full refund which was really great of them.

The ambers do look really mean on the car, but they can't be used during the daytime in this heat. I'm debating just keeping them and using them at night only, since you can't see them that well during the daytime anyways.

Are you running the whites or the ambers? I heard there is a slight difference between the ballasts.

No problems here, but it only gets 100 at most here.

yep.. did another trip yesterday from Austin back to Houston (~ 160 miles). It was anywhere from 90-100 according to my dashboard and not a single problem. I guess the lux bulbs aren't cool with the 105 - 111F insanity. ha ha pun intended.. ha ha . ok.

This is the information from our for sale thread:

Information regarding high temperature days

The LUX H8 V3 power supply has been specially designed to incorporate a temperature sensor. On very hot days the inside of the headlight compartment may reach very high temperatures, and the LUX power supply has been designed to turn off if the temperature reaches 100 degrees Celsius. This thermal cutoff is designed to protect the LUX and prevent damages to occur due to heat.
