Lamin-x + 1M Paint Protection

Lamin-x has templates for every imaginable part of the 1M!
Mine is at their shop right now getting the side sills and the leading surface of the rear fender flares done. I would do the entire front end but I have some special plans for it that require waiting to get that area protected.

I am taking the car on a pretty long trip next week (24 hour race @ VIR if anyone is in the area) so it seemed like a good time to get it done.

I'm getting images of all the areas they will cover shortly so I'll post them up asap. They are not listed on the website yet but will be soon. Rumor has it they will be offering a discount to those who buy multiple pieces. Of course, the code word is "Dan" so don't forget!

Thanks Dan! This will be the first thing I do to mine.

Hurry up August.

You want August to come quick for your car while I want it to come slow since I turn 40 on the 12th.

I had mine done about 6 weeks ago and there was already a template.

i had my car done with 3M clear bra and it helps me sleep at night. the front bumper of this car is a wall and will 100% look like crap after a year of hard driving with no protection. i think its a good bet.

Those who have had it done, what did it cost you? Please PM me if you don't feel comfortable sharing publicly.

This looks interesting how obvious are the seams of lamin-x? Anyone have an idea how much it would cost to have the front and rear kits applied professionally?

The edges are noticeable if you are looking for them. The film is 8 mil (I believe). I had it on the front of my AW Z4 MC and it was well worth the protection it gave and after 5 years it still looked like the day it was installed. When you wax it you always wax from the film toward the edge so you don't get wax build up on the edges. When I messed up I could take a towel and follow the edge to remove the wax. As far as price goes Lamin-x has an installer network here:

Great timing - I just picked up my 1M last night. I'm in the ATL area I'll be giving these guys a call in the next couple weeks.

As a practical matter, how are the optical qualities of the layer? Will it still look OK on BSM?

For the 1M paint protection kits Lamin-x is offering a 15% coupon.
Use coupon code: 1M15
It only applies to the paint protection kits and is good until August 31, 2011.

I have it on the hood of the race car (black with a little silver fleck) and it's good.

I have purchased their headlight protection but never the paint protection. Does Lamin-x use Ventureshield material? That's all I will use.

the problem with kit is that the seams will be quite noticeable. the typical silver, gray hides them well. but the white will be worst since the edge gets dirty because the dust gets in the edge easy. the BSM & VO will be better in this case.

Does anyone know if when detailing the car's exterior a glaze, sealant, and wax can be applied over the laminate? I know that wax can be but I have never heard anything about glazes or sealants.

Question for you re. the wrapped bumper - does it wrap right around the edges at the side, in behind the wheel wells?

I never had a problem with it on my AW Z4MC. I suppose twice a year I would give the edges some attention after waxing but it wasn't a big deal. I'll get these other questions answered asap.

nah. it comes right up to the edges but does not wrap around it. i do have small pieces cut for the paint inside the wheel wells but the front piece itself does not wrap around.
