Fidiman's build thread (updates first and last page)

Hi everybody, as there were too much things to change in my first post, I decided to delete it completely and to re-do it again.

So, I'm a French 1 series driver. I'm 24 years old and actually studying engineering in the materials division.

Let's talk now about my ride ... It's a small 120d coupé with some mods. My final aim will be a complete M conversion (even for the engine). So, it came out of the factory in December 2009 with 177hp and 350Nm of torque, a gummy chassis and some awful stuff ...

Now after mapping, I have 225hp (I was told the BMC air filter will add some hp), and nearly 470Nm of torque. Now I have a little and enjoyable diesel for my daily driving. As I said, I plan to do a full M conversion as some other members here have done ... We will see in one year for the heaviest mods

I will list the mods instead of doing it chronologically :
- mapping Shiftech 222cv et 468Nm
- BMC air filter
- BMW Performance exhaust
- CDV
- Goodridge brake lines
- Motul RBF600
- BMW Performance strut brace
- BMW Performance side skirts
- BMW Performance like carbon diffuser
- Debadging
- BMW Performance carbon spoiler
- BMW Performance handbrake and gear shifter
- BMW Performance pedals
- VMR VB3 Gunmetal 8,5"F et 9,5"R
- M3 e93 anti-roll bars F and R
- Powerflex rear anti-roll bar silentblocs
- 1M/M3 F and R suspension arms
- Powerflex Black rear subframe inserts
- Michelin Pilot Super Sport 215/40/18F and 245/35/18R
- St XTA coilovers (basically the KW v2 with linear springs front and camber plates)
- 1M anti-strut braces
- LCI Blacklines
- F21 M135i brakes with Endless MX72 pads
- Powerflex Black rear bumpstops
- OZ Ultraleggera + Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 in 225/40/18 squarred

Current look:

With the phone:

Here, you can observe some blue accents in the front rims, which are in fact the F2x M135i brakes:

To come :
- Camber link ///M (?)
- Rear toe arms
- Lightweight trunk
- Lightweight hood
- Lightweight roof
- Recaro Pole Position
- Throwing out all the "useless" things
- Lightweight battery
- LCI front lights
- Combox
- ...

I did and I will do all the works on the car by my own in my garage. As I'm an engineering student and as I would like to work in the automotive brand, it could help me to win some experiment and to understand how things work

Now, some pics of the car :

Pics of some stuff installed :

Plastidipped chromeline and wheels:

She was ready to see the track two days later

Rolling shots:

Tracking:

Coilovers :

Comments on the mods :

So, regarding all the stuff I did and the fact it was the first time I worked on a car, it's useless to say I'm very happy because I succeeded in all the operations

Now, the car feels very planted on the ground. I quite eliminated the body roll with the stiffer anti-roll bars. It's very impressive how you can feel the differences a bigger ARB can give !
The car feels more precise and the chassis is awesome. Only problem now : I feel the lack of power ... But still, I have some plans for that in a few months

So, what do you guys think ? Any input ? Any idea for the future mods ?

Video when tracking :

Thank you all for your messages !

But I've doubts : isn't it better to put 269 replicas or CSL replicas on my car ? It would be less expensive, but would the quality be there ?

I phone the garage Friday for the first mods (but the engine tuning will be done only in the end of July, maybe in August, I don't know : 'case I have to go one month in an english foreign country for scool).

Edit : The appointment is planed to the next week ! I will mount the trunk spoiler and th performance pedals !

But ... there is an enormous problem : the price of the wheels increased by 900€ (1272$) and the complete wheels cost now nearly 4450$ ! That's too much for me
So what can I do ? Buy 264 style ? Buy 216 style ? CSL Replicas (but no VMR because of the costs of the transport and of the customs) ?

Thank you for answering me guys

Nice Car

first, i would never buy Replica´s

4500,- for a pair 269 in 18" !?!?!?!? Thats not even the Price @ the BMW Dealer... in Germany we are talking about 1800-2000€ with Rubber

Thank you comar !

Yeah, I think replicas are sometimes bad quality wheels ...

I write the price in dollars, in € it's 3150 (with the rubber) ... :/ But I can't understand why in Luxemburg the price increased as well !

1800€ would ba a good price ! But isn't it a bit more expensive on the BMW website ? I'm surprised that the wheels only without the rubber is not enought than 375€ ! It's annoying that I'm not near a German concession ...

Hey Buddy,

yep... the "normal" Price is also in Germany higher... but for that Price you get a beautiful Pair of BBS

Heres a pair for a E46 , which also fits on the e82 --> http://www.salesafter.eu/product_inf...idgestone.html . Thats a"normal" BMW Dealer... Maybe they send to France?

Greetz from Munich

hello,

nice car and nice driveway - if this driveway is private property you must have quite a nice house!

just looked up the prices for the "csl" wheels:

the real 19" 359M Y speiche (CSL, competition package, 1M) are € 541,--front and 603,--rear per piece

the price of € 4350,-- is for all four wheels plus michelin tires (michelin tires are awful expensive)

i dont think the wheels will fit the e82 without any bodywork - and i dont know of any 359Ms in 18"???

No, that's not the 359m wheels :P (even if I love those ) ! They would be for my next car xD !

Comar, isn't it strange to see that the set for e46 is cheeper than the set for e82 ? There's a differents of size too.

Yep... They got different Offsets... So, in Germany, where everything has to Be Street legal (TÜV) , you just put the e82 Offsets on and thats it. If you buy the e46 Spec Wheels, you have to drive to the TÜV and they give you Green light (you have to Pay for that of course)

I think they sell those e46 Parts out... The Time is gone when some dude buy some Tuning Parts direct @ BMW.... The Car is getting to old

To which BBS did you think about before ?

Yes, I know it's a bit complicated in Germany and in Luxemburg with the TÜV, but in France I don't think so.

Whitout tires I found the 269 at 470€ in Luxemburg and 370€ in Germany ...
If I don't order the 269 Performance, which wheels could I fit on my car ?

nice to see you have started adding carbon parts

i like grey/silver cars with some carbon bits and black or dark gunmetal wheels!!!

especially the dark wheels are a must on a silver/grey car in my opinion - i wanted my next car that way but i can only get it in black so the wheels will have to stay silver for the contrast

however, no matter if you get new wheels or keep the current ones - i highly recommend to have them in black or dark gunmetal - that is just my opinion and taste but i just like the style so much

Thanks ;-) !

I like it too ! It does a great contrast that's why I would like to buy 269 Performance wheels and some other carbon parts !

I think tinted windows will fit perfectly too !

I think we see too much silver and dark cars here in France but no silver or black cars with some carbon parts or something else to contrast with the global color. Isn't it ?

And is my muffler too much apparent ? I think so ... I can't remember buying my car and having such an exhaust pipe ...

Edit : Someone wanted to steal my exhaust pipe

Edit 2 : VMR is now imported in Europe ! But I think I will have one problem : with 8.5 front it will rub, isn't it ? And having a 8.5 front and rear won't be a good thing isn't it (normaly there's 0.5" or 1" diffrence between front and rear) ?
