I know I know I know
probably already talked about many times but what are your takes on getting either a manual or auto transmition? the 135i I ordered might have fallen through and it was a manual trans and I might have freed myself up to look at other options ie the auto... I really NEED help guys. I almost feel like getting an auto is a big NO NO. But I also see so many of you with auto's... I love shifting but my brother is getting a 2010 5.0 mustang and I really just wanna beat him lol. let me know thanks

You won't have a problem beating a '10 5.0 with just a tune either way. I sprung for the 6MT in my 2010 135i. The steptronic in the 08-10 135s is like .1-.2sec faster in the quarter mile with equivalent mods on average, and the DCT in the 2011+ is even faster, but the feeling of rowing through the gears is well worth the loss in shift speed.

well see my brother will be doing bold on's and possibly a pro charger... he's dead set on beating me at all costs and him and I both have about 5-8k to spend after purchasing our vehicles... at the same time I dont really wanna spend that much and risk it being my daily driver lol

If you can find a nice 09 135i optioned nicely, take 6k of that and do an LSD, M3 suspension bits, FBO and mix in some E85 and you will be very tough to beat just about anywhere. For another 3kish into RBs and with the proper equipment you could have an over 500whp 3200lb monster

if I found an 08 manual trans with 30k miles with nice options would that suffice? and with all of that done to the car would it still be a good daily driver? and what is RB?

If your brother puts 5-8 K into his 5.0... you wont touch his car in the straights... If he adds the proper suspension to his stang... you wont touch him either way... his platform is much more mod friendly and there is much more room for gains in that 5.0 than in the n54/n55...

yea I thought so... he has more money then I do to put towards parts as well... as long as I can get to around an 11 second car I'm not really worried cause even though he has more money then I do. He's cheaper then I am. ALOT CHEAPER... he says hes going to get a pro charger for 4800 but I just dont see him doing that. most likely he will just do headers exhaust and intake....

Unless he adds FI to his car, you should be faster by a decent amount. 11s can be had with the right mods and a good driver.

RBs are RB turbo upgrades. Stock location stock housing units that increase power band and top-end power pretty substantially once you run out of stock turbo efficiency.

FBO + RB seems the way to go. DCTs are awesome but some people have doubts about its abilities to handle large power. I would go either manual or auto in that case!

The 6MT has also proven to be quite durable and reliable. There's a guy on n54tech that money shifted 3-2 at redline and popped some timing components before his tranny.

To me it sounds like if all you want is to beat your brother in a drag race and he is getting a mustang then a 135i probably isnt your best bet?
That being said, IMO.. a manual is sooo much more fun to drive, having your feet completely in control and connected to the drive train always out weighs a .1-.2 0-60 time difference but having the car drive for you... |

You went from posting to buying in a day? Ok well my advice was to pick what you like driving better. An automatic can be faster from a dig but after that they are about the same and it's all about how you like to drive the car. Screw your brothers rustang, as it can be a purposefull car it will never have the fell of a 135i.

Do you have to run a custom tune for the RB's?

Unless you are at the drag strip daily or use the car strictly as a competition drag car, i would personally much rather a 6mt just for the fun of shifting and clutch control.
