Very cool, congratulations. Keep us updated on how you like it. This really is the future of automotive travelling, especially in larger metropolitan areas.
Can't say I'm crazy about the i3 camouflaged pictures provided in this thread though. The prototype looked so unique and trendy... |

The wheels on the model in the brochure scans looked a whole lot better than the ones on the OP's car. No offense.

Sales pitch is ridiculous. 5 cents/mile? What does a replacement battery cost? 4000 lbs?
BMW should focus on Fuel Cells, efficient use of petroleum, building lighter cars, etc. |

This car would look 10x better if it had an M Sport package with nicer rims, seats and a different steering wheel.
Either way; I don't think the technology is quite there yet... get this car a 200 mile range somehow and it will be pure awesome. Also, does this car actually have a transmission?

For God's sake the hood belongs on a 1MC.
Thanks for posting. I hope the stickers peal off as easy as you can lower it. Congrats to you, and thank you for posting the important details that I need to know. The looks of the i3 is scaring me now, when it excited me just a few weeks ago. The Joy for me currently ends here... Again, thanks for posting~! |

How cool! The range of 100 miles is lacking, I figure it needs to have around 200-300 miles to make it a viable alternative to every day car.
I think if you lower the car the consumption will improve (so will offset your planned big wheels). In terms of tyres, I think Michelin Primacy HP or something is what they say is a good tyre for low rolling resistance vs performance. Wonder which tyres yours has? Wish they'd have picked E61 touring for this testing as the 1er is never much of a looker, sans 1M guise.

Cool that BMW is doing this car but what about this:
http://www.teslamotors.com/models I am VERY seriously considering letting my 5er go in exchange for the 300mile performance version. Maybe the price is very different but in Denmark the price of a 520d touring is the same as the price of the top of the range Model S. Ulrik |

The company that I work for has a partnership with EnergieParken. They make charging stations that are incorporated into parking meters. Park your car, plug it in, and charge the electricity and parking to your credit card. We have one installed at our German factory. Some of the employees use it to charge their bicycles, but no ActiveE yet.

It's a niche and a gimmick. I'm sure the R&D, and everything that must be done to make those batteries is the same if not worse for the environment. And not every electric socket is pushing out clean electricity! While I value BMW's effort, all car companies need to realize that a step backwards in usability just cannot work in our society. I've NEVER ran out of gas. I've only once had a car break down on me that required a tow (Ford, go figure). How many times has your watch, cell phone, laptop, or other electronic device failed on you even when their batteries said they had enough juice? How many times have they been unreliable on a really hot or really cold day. I'm not against alternative fuel, I'm just for one that makes a bit more of sense. Just what everyone wants, a second, more expensive car that is potentially unreliable out of concept. |
