An intercooler is definitely a worthwhile upgrade, for both track and street use. I think these underhood hot air intakes are not, because in real world conditions I don't see them making power. I see them losing power in the sort of weather we get in Sydney (hot, humid).

It all depends on what you're after. If you'er willing to lose power in real world but want to bump up a few rwhp with the hood up, dry ice under the hood, CO2 spraying on your intercooler, some monster fans pumping air, the dyno machine inputs tweaked, then go ahead.

Or spend the dollars on something that both makes dyno power and real world power. That's my take, I know there are many with a vested interest in arguing otherwise, either because they sell intakes or they've bought them and don't want to believe they are useless.

Another way of looking at it is that it won't cause any harm really (a small gain .. the same .. a small loss of power?) so if they float your boat then buy 'em and install 'em and enjoy the cool intake sounds.

Or make a big contribution! Take your car to a dyno shop. Have them baseline the car without intake. Then have them install the intake and redyno on the same machine with the same settings on he same day. And post up your findings!

In the summer here my AFE DCI is making my power feel very laggy. But in the winter, it's perfectly fine from what I can tell (no dyno though).

I think the wooshing sound is worth the 5-10 hp drop down low, even if there was no 5 hp gain up top. I definitely wasn't trying to argue or anything, but each person has their own preferences. I assume OP wants to get every little ounce of power out, so a DCI wouldn't hurt.

However, I completely agree with you, in the real world on hot (not just hot, even just warm-ish) days, there's no benefit. Just a cool woosh, and I'm okay with that since I didn't technically pay any money for my DCI

Yep that makes sense. Most people don't race so there's no big deal either way. In that case a cool induction noise is worth it.

Ok, so where is your own tests that you claim you have done? Care to post some of your own charts to back your theory up?

Here is my take on it:
Above 13 or 14 psi the stock airbox cannot flow enough air so something must be done. If you have an IC or Meth, IATs are not a concern so the cheapest, and "coolest" sounding intake is a DCI, so that makes the most sense. It will give you as much power if not more than a CAI with the preceding mods. If you dont have a FMIC or Meth and you live in a hot area then a CAI may be worth while because it will keep your IATs a few degrees lower.

There's no "claim" about it. I've got many dyno pulls on my 135 and been there for many pulls with several other 135s.

But I'm forgetting this is the internet, manners and logic are optional. Carry on as you were spreading misinformation.

You sir, are the one being obnoxious. You have the strongest opinions about this subject and clearly think you have done the most research so why do you not want to share some of it with us since it is fact and not a "claim".

I went through all 7 pages of his mod journal and didnt see any dynos comparing dci to non dci

It would be a lot easier for everyone if he could post these right in this thread if they are so easily accesible to him.

Also after I tried to explain how racegas + methanol could be useful and him saying its absolutely not I found him saying this in his own build log, "Examining the dyno sheets in a bit more detail, the car picked up a useful amount of torque with race fuel over the pump fuel, however the peak horsepower number was a marginal gain (~1.6% increase)."

Torque is much more important than peak horsepower.
