Long trip and break-in

Picking up my car next month at the PCD and I'll have a long trip back to Boston.
I was just wondering if extended trips are be a bad thing, or not, for a new car during the break-in period. Thanks for your input!

Row through the gears more often, a long trip is better IMO, but try keep varying the revs.

It wont hurt it... but just make a lot of stops in between so you can bring the revs up and down and through the gears to better help it break in while you do so. Think: bathroom breaks, food, rest-stop, more food, more bathroom breaks, and each time you get on the on ramp give it 60% throttle and let the revs climb all through the RPM range and gears.

A long trip seems like a great way to break in your new car.

I think the general rule would be not to get stuck at 1 rev range for too long and don't be overly hard on the brakes.

Have fun. Congrats!

We did PCD and then did the blue ridge parkway and skyline drive for the return. Perfect trip.

Remember light throttle, lots of engine braking, and never stay at one specific speed.

You'll have a great time!!

I would change engine oil as soon as you get back to Boston.

+1. I did it not that long after getting home... Maybe 1500 miles. The UOA is posted here someplace. Lots of fuel.

It is smart to change it early the first time, even on these high-tech engines that dont have sand in their castings and all the old time reasons for changing the oil at breakin. IMO ditto for the trans and diff, though not as much of a rush on it... Ill probably do mine around 10k.
