dont get me wrong, but the rs3 pretty much won everything on that list aside from weight distribution, and ok i know we are comparing them as "track" cars but seriously who buys these cars souly to use them as track cars? I do love the 1m and have seen the focus rs before and its pretty amazing, i just dont understand if the rs3 is better in pretty much all aspects so i dont see why it made second place and not first. anyways my own opinion

Following a few weeks with my 1 M I can only confirm this test.
The 1 M is perfect for a sports car.....unlike the Audi. Its biggest problems are the weight and the tires. What does traction by quattro bring a car, if the chassis basis is a "FWD everyday car used by mamas to do their shopping". This car is a joke. No individuality, and as the tester says "the right feeling doesn't come up".
Audi has no tradition in building real sports cars, unlike BMW has. Audi will never be able to build a real sports car. Same as with the R8. What the F... does this car offer more than just pure safetiness.
It's nothing for hardcore fans....Real sports car fans drive RWD cars that behave like RWD cars and not AWD.
BMW is not only the winner, BMW tops anything. It's just Sheer Driving Pleasure.

Yeah why not make all drivetrain same. why not make all weight the same. why not make same amount of R&D investment to all of those cars.

I hate when people bring up price figure and thinks if you paid more, you better be "faster". There is more to a vehicle than price. For example, magazine comparisons do use price as one of the factors to determine whether the car is worth it or not. However, there are 30 more other factors that justify a vehicle. Being faster is not the only thing. For the more money you pay, you get a car that is more reliable, designed to outperform other competitions, get connected with the road with unmatched steering wheel, premium image, list goes on.

If I just wanted inexpensive fast car or at least easy/cheap to make it fast and perform, I would've bought an Evo or STi. My top two cars in its market segment . But I wanted much more than just fast.

I agree. Really dislike the red leather seats in the RS500. Made me skip it, and I bought a regular instead (in Frozen White).

Back to the comparison: I personally think it's kinda incredible that a FWD Focus does so well against a BMW M and an Audi RS. Then dump price into the mix and the Focus RS really shines. Make no mistake, though. I would really like a 1M some day. No doubt about it.

For me I think the track times show there is almost no difference between the 1M and RS3, however, despite being the heaviest the RS3 is the quickest in a straight line on all tests and most economical. 0-60mph in 4.2s! I wonder do they use a rollout? I don't think so because the 1M "only" achieved 4.8s

I'd still take the 1M because I don't really like the A3 sportback design. I only like the A3 in 3dr form.

Yes, the 1M won out, but there is one weakness in almost every M review.
BMW is never the fastest in its class in a straight line.

I refuse to accept that somehow an M-car HAS to be slower to achieve good handling.
That assumption is complete misnomer.

No wonder BMW has such a humongous tuning and aftermarket cottage industry.
They're never the best on ALL points off-the-lot.

This is a ridiculous post.

Ever heard of the multiple Le Mans winning R8 and R12? Perhaps I should go back and count the driven wheels.

Have you driven an R8 GT?

It is hardly a surprise that the RS3 comes out faster in a 0-100 kph sprint. The AWD will allow for a much harder launch and the DSG will probably shift faster than it is possible for most humans to copy. Add to this that the 1M may even lose traction for a split-second when shifting from 1st to 2nd on WOT whereas the AWD Audi will just bite, bite, bite.

But okay, even in the 100-200 kph sprint the RS3 showed a 0.2 sec advantage (13 vs 12.8). Again, maybe that DSG box helps the (boring) Audi a little...

There is a guy at the track with an R8 V8 and it is deadly fast around the corners. Certainly a fantastic car. Its basically a Gallardo for crying out loud.

I think the LeMans Audi is R8 (gas) and R10 (diesel). The R12 is still concept isn't it?
