How to upload the firmware to the JB4?
I cant understand the instructions on how to upload the firmware "hex file" to the JB4. I cant find the link to download the JB4 software app. I guess the "update firmware" is a menu item or button on it?
Also, while I'm asking noob questions, are cat less DP's worth it? It also doesn't sound like I need a new intercooler because I'm not really running the car hard...just the occasional foot to the floor for 10-15s deal. Or am I wrong? FWIW: I bought my '09 135i already modded with JB4, Remus rear exhaust and dual cone intakes Thank you! Last edited by NOrrTH; 07-18-2014 at 10:01 PM.. |

You need to spend a good couple of hours and start researching the JB4. You need to find out if it's G4 or G5 and if it's ISO or not. This is a good place to start.
http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10605 READ THIS THREAD!!! There are tons of links in it. One of the questions is about old wheel controls. I think that link will give you the old starting point thread. Should break everything down for you and give pictures. I'm sure the latest interface is there somewhere. That's what you need to download and install once you verified what version JB4 you have. Once you have the interface you can update the hex. Not sure if to many people are going to explain things very much further. It's all spelled out in those threads.

All mods are only "worth it" if there's a certain goal your trying to reach. I think downpipes are totally worth if for sound and quick spool. Depending on how much you want to push the car the intercooler probably isn't needed. But once you get the hang of things and start logging you can ask someone to look and see if you need to upgrade.

I guess my "goal" is to squeeze out as much power as I can while still keeping it reliable and safe. The JB4's power increase is pretty amazing by itself. I don't need/want much more, but if for around $400 I can free up the exhaust restrictions and gain a little bit of easy power, then I feel it would be worth it. However if the only change after doing the DP's is a faster spool and change in sound, then for me, it wouldn't be worth it. Thank you for your reply |

I ran map 7 with DP's and race gas. No issues. Good logs and all.
Now you can run 50% e85, backend flash, and walboro on map 7 with no need for race gas. I love Terry. And it's even easier to upload/change settings with the JB4 Mobile app.
