Overtaken by a Cooper S

We went to Hervey Bay this weekend and it is funny I was given a lot respect by the Falcons and the Commordores, but not the others.

I got impatient at a stage and overtaken a mini and a slow car infront of it.

Not long after that I have got the mini on my tail - I always tend to stick to the speed limit on highways and the next thing I know there was an overtaking lane and the 135i was going for it. I thought about shifting to third, and then I had a laugh and let it go.

Sounds like the cooper driver thought he has got a very fast car because he drove a S.

While the other typical hoons seems to know what this little 1 can do. . Even without the 135i badget.

I take it you've never driven a Cooper S in anger? The 135 would of course hose it in a straight line, but throw some decent corners in and it will get interesting
(I've seen a Cooper S keep an STI more than honest across the Reefton Spur, and the STI was drive by an ex Australia Production Car champion....)

I also own a MINI Cooper S and am in the Atlanta MINI car club. Several times a year Phil Wicks stages a weekend or a day of "driving academy" on grand prix tracks. We always live to see the Corvettes and Vipers show up to play. Our MINI Coopers blowthem off the tracks and they drive away still not believing what happened to them.

If you know how to drive the MINI Cooper on a grand prix track our ONEs don't really have a chance.

Your not going to get up to 145 on a grand prix track; however, you are correct...anything over 120 and the MINI becomes very unstable. I have litterally had the rear end of the MINI start to lift at about 125 and remember it's a cabrio

I test-drove the Mini Cooper S Chilli 2 weeks ago and I got a big shock....

OMFG what a solid and well handled FWD it is. I was pretty much sold instantly but sad thing was my wife didn't like it.

I sold a MCS Chilli for my 135i, and must admit, I sometimes miss the way it just goes where you turn the wheel. But I sometimes felt like I was a little kid driving that thing...

If the MCS looked more like the 1er, I would have been completely sold on it. As it was...just couldn't get into its funky styling.
