aladda brake dust

After one day of driving, the rims are already soiled! Maybe it's cause I have aftermarket rims. Does everyone else with aftermarket (or stock) rims have a problem of dirty rims after one or two days?

Yep (stock 162). I use rejex (a sealant) on them so they wipe clean easily.

Happens to everyone, and probably most BMW's and other Euro's.

I was surprised to see BMW recommend "Dust shields" to prevent dust buildup in the latest "Inside Track" that comes from BMW Financial Services!

I thought these were frowned upon due to heat build up.

Rims is not what causes them to get dirty. Its your brakepads. Although the cleaner they are the faster the get dirty don't they?

Just like a lot of members clay and seal their cars with the zaino system.

I suggest you try that with your wheels. It makes it a lot harder for brakedust to stick.

You can always go ceramic in regards to your brake pads, you will find they let out 80% less dust.

What's a dust shield? I just use rejex on my rims and they clean off easily, highly recommend the stuff if you have lots of spokes that are hard to get between.

I have thought about going the route of ceramic pads... My 162's are pretty dirty at the end of each week... Even the monaco stays cleaner nowadays...

Already did the klasse on the rims. Ceramic pads are not covered by the maintenance program right?

i had used them in the early 80's but the heat can't dissipate behind them. this caused many of rotors to warp... they have almost become existent due to warpage from heat build-up.

i would recommend rotex gold kevlar dust free brake pads.

I wipe my wheels clean EVERY night.

Keeps 'em lookin' sweet all the time.

It takes me 10 minutes.

Otherwise . . . .

In regards to the ceramic type brake pads, do these pads change the braking characteristics of the car (i.e. longer braking distances). Also, will they increase wear on the rotors?

I had an experience where non OEM brake pads were used on my wife's Volvo and they wore out the rotors prematurely. I definitely don't want to go through that experience again.

i had hawk hps pads on my M3 and X5. the performance is equal or better than oem...but really improved upon heating of pads.

the X5 has had the hawk pads on since day one ('01). 75k on original hawk pads. half pad remaining.

no problems... except 95% less dust. that's a huge plus!

i have new "rotex gold" kevlar pads for my soon to arrive 330i.

I am bringing this thread back to life...

I just bought an 07 335i e90 with sports package and the stock 162s do not feel smooth at all. On past cars, it's easy to wipe away the brake dust. Now on the BMW, it feels rough almost. Anyone have any suggestions on how to clean them, if they can get clean/not rough? I've seen some buffer type attachments on drills.
