Question about Lux V3

I just got a 2012 128 and want to put these lights in, but when I asked the dealer if they could do it if I supplied the parts (to make sure I didn't screw anything up) they told me they're not allowed to mess with the computer configurations when they get it from Germany. Whether or not that is true, I know the computer is finely tuned and any sort of change or difference can make it go crazy and set off all kinds of warning lights that shouldn't be going off. Is there any risk of this swapping out the lights and putting in the Lux V3 lights? Do I need to have the computer adjusted in any way to compensate for a different bulb/voltage/etc?

Sorry if this is a repost, I searched for this question but came up empty. Promise =)

If you already have xenon lights on your car, then there is no configuration of the computer at all required. The LUX V3 kit is a direct replacement for the stock H8 angel eye bulbs, and while it has an extra little ballast box that sits in the headlight unit, it runs directly off the stock wiring at the stock voltage.

If you have halogen lights, that is another story. You can't install the LUX lights with the halogen headlights because you need to replace the whole headlight assembly, install the xenon control units for each side, etc.

Perfect. I have the xenon option, but was worried with all that extra motorized wizardry that I know nothing about, I would have to have some setting adjusted that I wasn't able to do. Thanks for the quick reply!

No problem It's as easy as unplugging the old bulb, twisting it out of its spot, plugging in the LUX bulb, and twisting it in. No need to deal with any of the adaptive headlight motors or anything since that stuff isn't really in the way of the H8 area in the headlight assembly.

Replacing the headlight caps is what's the giant pain in the ass. After 3 years and dozens of times opening and closing that area, I still can't get it right without scratching up my hands and lots of frustration.

TWS - Let me know if you get a dealership to do this change for you. OR where you do finally end up taking it. I am picking up an 08 128i tomorrow and am looking to make the change to LUX V3's too. I just want to make sure it's done right and don't particularly want to pay the $700 to ship the existing lights. Not to mention the car will be out of commission!

It isn't that hard to install plus I highly doubt the dealership will install them as if anything happens they are hooked for the damages.

I've installed probably 4 different types of LEDs and HID bulbs into my car and it is not difficult.. especially when you have a 128i.

Both my girlfriend and I have a 2012 128i with Lux V3 installed. Haven't had any problems and it's simple plug and play. Hope that helps!

Thanks for all the replys guys. I just got my lights and tried to install them but wasn't able to. I got the print out and watched a video, but still wasn't sure if I was doing it correctly. When I went to get the bulb out, it feel like something was holding it in and I didn't want to rip it out. I tried both sides and they both felt that way. The video I watched of a 135i looked quite different, and I'm not sure that the hook up I have for the bulb is correct. I just don't see a comparable part on the existing OEM bulb that I would plug into my lux power supply. Here are some pictures I took of my headlight, without the backing.

I didn't want to break anything so I didn't want to force it. Any help would be appreciated.

after you twist the oem bulb to unlock it you have to wiggle it out because of the oem seal. I just did mine yesterday and had some difficulty putting the covers back on. Another problem I had was with the Lux plug, after plugging it in and turning on the lights I got a "Lamp warning"light. The red leg of the Lux plug had poped out somehow. Over all it was easy, and looks great!

There doesn't seem to be any place for it, and it looks nothing like the directions on their site.

Maybe if you can answer this it will help:

(question in the picture)

I was pulling out number 2 because it looks just like the lux bulb...but I see no where to attach the black plug on that one. This is not clear in the directions.

Finally got them installed. Thank you everyone for the help. But unfortunately I've got a new issue. The passenger side looks fine 100% of the time:

You can see the interior halogen light pops on, a light I didn't even know could turn on. It happens when it is 1. Really dark, and 2. set to automatic lights. It usually only stays on for 30 seconds and then fades off, but looks like I'm missing a headlight when it's on.

I literally just replaced the bulbs with the lux bulbs and closed her back up. Any idea what I may have done here? This is driving me crazy!

Thanks again!

lol by any chance was the wheel turned? Both lights come on when in reverse or each one will turn on depending on which way the wheel is turned, they are there to provide extra light when turning

I honestly don't remember if the wheel was turned. I don't think it was. I was parked, one of them came on when I put it on adaptive headlights, and then faded off after about 30 seconds, but I noticed while driving (sitting behind someone at a light and being able to see my lights reflecting off their trunk) that it had popped on again.

If it was because I had the wheels turned, shouldn't both of those be on?
