I will be disabling my port along with creating a trap switch that will change the port to a direct link to the battery and fry out their tool.

Ok, ever since I went to BMW to buy a replacement key to my car that I lost I thought it was easy to steal my car. I cant remember if they went in my car or not but I remember ordering a new key from them. When the key finally arrived to my house (it wasnt shipped form dealer) it wouldnt work but after I stuck it into the keyhole it worked.

"Anti-theft alarm system with keyhead remote operation and interior motion detector" I assume 2012 M3 has the factory alarm. I remember it as an option when I ordered my car. The red thing under my rearview mirror doesnt flash like the people with the factory alarm and it doesnt chirp when locked. So I bet mine doesnt have motion detector correct? So a BMW with factory alarm is one that has the red flashing lights and chirps when locked correct?

I am glad I didnt get factory alarm now knowing how useless it is.

Btw does the traditional door lock opener work? The one you slip down the window to unlock the door? That wouldnt trigger the alarm right? Since I believe I read the OP saying the smashed his window to get to the OBD port.

Just trying to figure out how someone can steal my car...

Sorry this happened OP and to be completely honest... Car is probably already in a crate being shipped to South America... :/ I hope I am wrong. For those people saying it wont happen in the US, its just a matter of time. We have to figure out a way to stop this.

BMW NEEDS to address this issue. Now we know why the 1m is a piece of art since all they did was focus on it being a "drivers car" and probably one of the most fun cars to drive lol. Didnt put to much work in making the $50,000+ car easy for someone to steal... Wow, from the OBDII? I bet for the OP its so sad to watch that video over and over again looking at his beast for the last time and some punk thug loosers taking a prized posession of his.... Thats a shame BMW that it is that simple to steal one of the finest cars your built That car can never be replaced and I'm terribly sorry.

Here is how they clone the key fob. These guys in Bulgaria sell this reader for 8K euros. I am sure there must be some cheaper Chinees (copied) scan tools out there!

and two other interesting videos...

this car is even a one series e82!
$8K for those programmers.. WOW... I think I found something to export out of Asia to Bulgaria

Since it's a 1M i wonder if Terry (JB) can come up with a map that requires a code via the steering wheel to start the car.

It's a right hand drive car,my bet it's not in a container to South America.

That car is probably sitting in a chop shop.I hate to say it but if BMW's are this easy to steal, there will be more used N54, S65 engines,DCT's,wheels etc. available online from Europe.

Those are some brave thieves! They did it despite two obvious security cameras and a giant perimeter floodlight shining on them.

Doesn't look like they started the car though? They just got access to the inside, disengaged the parking brake and pushed it off the driveway probably to a waiting flatbed tow truck?

All I know is that if I saw this going down, I'd be out there in half a second with a really large caliber rifle.

A Garage.

If you don't have a garage, well, I would reconsider buying any vehicle you can't afford to lose.

Also, this is also not a safety issue so BMW is not required to do anything about it. Every vehicle has their security loopholes and if it is worth stealing, thieves will think of a way to take it.
Garage is a deterrent, but not a stop. If they really want it, they can easily get into the garage.

I feel like this is gonna piss off BMW and maybe they will stop making the port so accessible, people stealing, people tuning, messing with all of their programming, they will just say screw em and put it in a hard spot and give dealers a special tool to access it.

Don't think it's not already here in NA.

My 2008 E92 M3 with full bolt ons was stolen from my driveway in early April this year. I was wondering how the fuck they stole it until I heard about these Keymakers via OBDII.

I ordered a new E92 M3 that I should be getting in August but this is a serious problem!!!!

This really seems effective. I will search and try to see if the actual success rate is really 100 %.

I support the point that BMW needs to address this with a statement which includes a plan for preventing this from recurring. If you agree, say so, lets get the number of responses on this thread was up like a petition
