Exhaust for n51????
I was getting ready to have the ecu flashed and after-cat exhaust done next week. The flash will be from AA. I wanted to go with the exhaust from AA as well only to find out they only have a header!
Not wanting to go that route yet, what options do i have and is the $$$ worth the hp/torque gains? |

No muffler makes any HP that is worth the money. Save for the headers first, then tune the sound with the muffler(all they are good for and very subjective).

The car will run, but you will need a tune if you don't want to throw emissions codes during state inspection. Plus a tune will get you the most from the headers.

Reach out to Andrew Fish at AA. They are still pushing the $850 introductory price for the headers and the upgraded ECU tune at $100. I have an AA tune already so you may need to spring for the complete tune.
I may be taking this leap very soon, or upgrading my brakes for autocross. Not sure yet. P.S. Agreed the BMW Performance exhaust isn't worth the money, HP wise. But I have it and would spend the money again for it based on the sound alone.

You could also get BMW's Performance Exhaust. It won't make any power but it sounds delicious!

i have an appt to get the ecu flashed next week from an AA dealer. dropped in a k&n and will add "scoops" at the suggestion of the AA dealer.
going to wait on the exhaust to save some $$$. i dont see the need to spend $$$ on the after-cat muffler just for sound without any power gains. might as well put "spinners" or neon on the car! i understand AA is working on an after-cat system which can add power. may try to bundle the entire exhaust in the future. may look at suspension upgrades instead... bilstein cup kit, M3 arms/bushings... just to get car even more fun to drive. it is my DD so i am not going to go too nuts! thanks for all the input. |

I the AA muffler isn't going to make any power either.
