Popping sound after start up.... backfire?
Lately I've noticed that in the mornings when i start my car up and drive off, I hear some 'popping noises'. It fairly muted with the window up (even with the music off) so I'm not sure if this has always happened or if its a recent thing.
It only happens for the first minute or so and then nothing. I'm thinking it could be a backfire as I read somewhere on the US forum some people noticing a similar thing. Anyone else have this happen in their car? Not sure how serious something like this is... |

Its actually like a backfire from the exhaust..Mainly in first gear, if I take off down our short street and then slow down reaching the corner whilst its still in first without changing gears.. I assumed it was from the JB3.. Is your car tuned? |

i've posted exactly the same issue a while back...
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=261815 I have no issues with my HPFP so far which some ppl mentioned in that thread, and it still has that lumpy sound upon start up... i think it's normal. My car is stock. |

mine at cold it misses quite noticably but once it warms up it gets better but still does it every now and often
it never runs perfectly smooth like I thought it should, I also have a fairly modified gtr with cams and it idles smoother, well, it doesn't miss. The miss is quite noticable too when in the car, you can feel the car shake a bit. So i took it to the dealership.. its "normal".. sneh, its got a 3 year warranty so if it farks up, it farks up. Next cruise I go on i'll listen to some other cars to see if it does the same thing as its hard to explain properly with words. and yeah, my 135 is stock

Fatboys post and yours are different.. In your post Kevin, you where more concerned with the ruff/popping noise on start up.
Fatboys reference is to a backfire/popping noise whilst driving in the first few minutes... Which can occur from excess unburnt fuel being passed through the exhaust then igniting in the exhaust causing the backfire/popping sound. |

You do get some popping noise when the car is first started cold in the morning, more like a pop, mmmm, pop, mmm, pop type of thing, it shouldn't misfire at all and you should be able to accelerate without hesitation.
Trust me, when these bad boys misfire you will know it. |

Never use to do it when it was new. Probably started around 3 or 4 kkms.8 on the clock now

sounds like a different type 'problem' to mine. this morning i was paying more careful attention to the popping noises.
What i can say is the at start up, idle and when moving etc, there is smoothness and no vibration etc. It's probably as what zuzu described being unburnt fuel passing through. The popping occurs actually when i lift from second gear after going up the hill on my street. |
