Oil pressure

Does anyone know what the oil pressure is on an N54 when warm?

Don't know your answer, but keep in mind RPM matters as well, and there is a relief/bypass valve that sets an effective maximum (typically ~80psi).

So for idle and 3000rpm there will be different values.

Mine at a cold startup is shows 100 PSI on my oil gauge at an idle. After it gets to operating temp its around 40 PSI at idle. I'm using Royal Purple 5w-30. I thought maybe the gauge was off so I hooked up a mechanical gauge and it had the same reading so the gauge is correct. Below is where I have it tapped in for the sensor. That braided hose goes to the sensor thats mounted near the firewall.

I'm new to the N54 and BMW's and my past cars never had oil pressure that high, most were at 65 psi cold and 30 at an idle. So when I installed this oil pressure gauge I was surprised at these readings. One time it was at 115 PSI on a chilly day, around 40 deg in the morning.

Thanks, I saw that post but did not find much other then that regarding normal oil pressure readings. So, mine reads between 40 - 115 PSI at idle depending on the engine temp. So I guess this is normal??
