However I don't want to get caught in a trap of "oh there's a 12 month waiting list" and that accounts for all production through 20xx, and I end up empty handed.
So put a deposit now and pick a date in the fall for pick up. Thats what I have done and Im paying $500 over ED invoice and my pick up date is sept 1 in Munich

I'd definitely be OK with a deposit and paying $500 over an (expected) ED invoice. My next question is should I try to work this via a local dealer (I have two) vs. an online dealer that specializes in ED?

Also, since you're going to pick up Sept 1, that would probably be for a 2012 model?

I'm ready to commit, it just seems like there are several unknowns at this point. I don't want to miss the boat, however.

Same question here. I have 3 dealers within 25 miles of me, but I would be taking ED and PCD anyway, so I don't really care where I buy from as long as I can get one and at a good price...

I'm in Dallas too.. you have Classic, BMW of Dallas, and who else??

Have you talked to any of them about the 1M? I have not, and as such have no vested interest in any particular dealership.

Cool. Mind sending me a PM with what you find out? After your 24 hours, of course.

I was at the auto show, and asked the limited production question to 6 (six) different reps.

2700 worldwide cars. 600 coming to USA.

Didn't even know about Autobahn (only in Ft. Worth, right?), and totally forgot about Moritz.

Please send me a PM if you are thinking about putting down a deposit. I haven't talked to any of those dealers yet, but I'm thinking I need to get with the program with all of this limited production talk. I'd like to do ED this October or March 2012. All assuming the dealers don't do something stupid with the pricing.

According to an email I got today from my local BMW dealer (miltary car sales) agent... 1M production starts in March, 2011 and ENDS in November, 2011 (THIS YEAR!).

So... it looks to be more 'limited" than we have been led to believe.

I posted in another thread that the US M Brand Manager Larry Koch indicated this past weekend at a BMW CCA board meeting that production would end December 2011. It appears that as a 2011 model, the 1M is exempt from the new more stringent CAFE standards that apply for 2012 models in the US.

http://blogs.consumerreports.org/car...12-models.html

The N55 motor used in the new 135 of course is a 2012 and has better emissions for those standards.
