Slight vibration or just really communicative handling/steering?
Just switched from my winters to Sumi HTR Zs on 17" KM11s. Feeling a slight vibration at speed. I can't tell if it is simply the harder compound of the tires causing me to feel every slight fluctuation in the road or if it is a true vibration.
I can only feel it via the wheel. I can't feel it if I take my hands off the wheel. I can't remember if my run flats felt like this last summer. I've been on marshmellow snow tires too long. This normal, or should I get them rebalanced? Bot the tires from tirerack, had them mounted at NTB (which makes me wary). |

vibration at certain speeds but not others usually means they were not balanced properly, especially if they are not new tires. It may have thrown a balance wieight

Yeah, sounds like a slight balance issue. If the problem persists after a balance see if you can find a tire shop with a Hunter RoadForce balancing machine as it tends to provide the best balancing by appying pressure to the tire as if it was rolling while doing the balancing.

Let us know what happens. I have a pair of KM11's with dunlop winter sports that I've balanced three times at three separate places within 3 months and they still have the jiggles. I'm pretty pissed at this point.

I've had the TireRack Sport Edition wheels previously for my winter set (similar to the Sport Edition Glide with Dunlop M3's) and could not get them balanced properly on normal balancing machines. I had to finally find a place with a Hunter RoadForce balancing machine to balance them and even then they still had a slight wobble but nothing like it was before when it was balanced on a regular machine where it felt like the wheel was going to come off.
When you pay as little as you do for the Sport Editions you get what you pay for.

So far, so good.
My guy had to use a shitload of weight on two of the wheels -- double stacking it in one place. Can't complain about the ride though.
He said that his Hunter came pre-loaded with some weight saving software that actually produced a worse ride than the car came in with in some instances. Once he bagged that and got some new software (that apparently doesn't spare the weight!) he became a meastro with the machine. |
