vorsteiner took off my hood to test fit Nick's hood but I didn't get to see them do it since I waited in the waiting room but you may want to ask Nick@Jlevi SW since he just replaced his hood witj vorsteiner's.

Did the install here and it took me all of 30 minutes. There are 4 bolts that hold the old hood to the factory mounts. You use a flat head screwdriver to remove the hood shocks (I suggest using M3 hood shocks for the new hood so as not to warp it). The factory hood latch is held in with a torx screw that you can remove.

Thanks, Nick. I just went outside and looked. Looks easy enough, sorry to have bothered you (I should've just looked!).
A couple of questions not directly related to hood removal: I'm going to remove the OEM roundel on my stock hood and place it on the new hood. Any recommendations on how to remove and place on the new one (aligning it properly, etc)? Other than Seibon, are there any other carbon fiber hood manufacturers who make OEM looking hoods?

Ah, I was about to pull the trigger on ordering a Seibon hood, but, a friend of mine just sent me a text message that the fitment on his was pretty bad. I'm not sure if he means it was aligned badly, or the fitment (around the perimeter) was bad. He's not a DIY'er, so he always has someone else or a shop do his; hard to tell from him sometimes.
Anyone have a Seibon CF hood on their e82? It turns out Vis also makes one...anyone with Vis? Anyone with experience with both?

Please don't do the Seibon hood. There is a local member on there that attends our meets and he had a terrible time with fitment and installation.
Even after adjustments, there is still significant gap on ether side. Looking at the two side by side, there was just no comparison in terms of the quality and fit of the Vorsteiner- it's literally like an OEM piece. The E82 hood is by far their best fitting hood to date, I was extremely impressed with the outcome. For the roundel, I recommend wrapping a flat head screw driver in a terry cloth towel and wedging underneath to pry it out. |

BTW, what kind of adhesive do people use to reapply the roundel to a new hood? Where can I buy such a wonderful product?

Nick@Jlevi SW the Vornsteiner looks good, but I'm kind of a plain Jane (I like it looking OEM). I'm waiting on 3D Design for theirs (end of Nov), Seibon's reputation precedes them, Vis seems good on some cars (friend has an RX-8 with one), but I'm just going to try something different.

How do you remove the little window washer spraying clips? Do they just pop out?

Since you bumped this insanely old ass thread, im kind of curious bout the Vors hood. First, are the vents open? If so, what about water getting down into the intake side, specially with a dci? I know the vents arent as close to the middle as say the ICarbon csl hood but still, same question. Also, are these still in production and if so from who and can they be painted before shipping?
Honestly I doubt id be in the market for a new hood cuz i just cant see selling or even getting rid of my stock hood as I def dont have room for it in my garage. A diffusor or something is a diff story.. |

It'll be raining tomorrow, but clear on Sunday. I want to put on my CF Hood!
I just want to go into the installation armed with knowledge and not scrambling around to get it finished as the sun goes down! Anyone know about the removal/installation of this?

Wow, a 2 year old thread.
But like thez99, it has piqued my interest in the Vorsteiner hood. I went to their site and it isnt there. Its not on Jlevi either. Is it gone for good? Its the only hood ive seen so many positive comments about. |
