BT Tool and VIN question

Hi guys,

I have the single VIN BT Tool and when I first used it, it didn't detect my VIN number. I didn't enter it in either, but it scanned for codes and connected fine.

Is this normal?

A friend wants to check his car with it so I assume it would work on his too? Or will it for some reason detect his VIN and then lock me out

Thanks in advance!

It should be fine, the VIN number from your car is stored in the cable itself (allowing for use in 3 cars with enthusiast version). It should auto-detect the VIN on his car and you should not have any issues.

No I only have the basic version for one VIN...

So if I tried on another vehicle, I assume it just wouldn't work?

The basic (a.k.a. Non-Professional) version allows you to work on 3 different BMW and Mini.

There are 3 versions of it now with (1/3/unlimited VIN limits). I would take it that it shouldn't work on your friends or (worse) if it detects the VIN on his then you might be screwed.

Your Basic cable should not work with another car, and my last discussion with BT they said that the Basic CAN'T be unmarried or upgraded at all. Once it is used on a car it is married for life, not even infidelity can break this bond.

Thanks Brad, if that is the case, why doesn't the VIN appear on the program?
