Wrapped my interior trim - finished!!! :)

Got sick of the sun shining through the windscreen and blinding me off the silver interior trim, so I decided to CF wrap it.

I inquired about getting it professional done, but it was going to cost ~$700-800.

I ended up going for the 3M Scotchprint 1080 Carbon Fibre vinyl wrap.

I purchased it from here;
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3M-Genuin...t_12925wt_1163

I only needed 1 sheet to do all of the interior trim.

I haven't done the centre console yet (plan on doing it later this week), but the rest of the trim has been done. All you need is a hair dryer, sharp knife and patience.

The original steering wheel trim had the matte black coating coming of in several sports and started to look pretty average. I'm very happy how it turned out.

Got a bit board and also did a key for a bit of fun and something different.

The photo's don't really do it justice, especially from the iPhone camera, but you get the idea. Once I've completed the centre trim, I'll clean the car and take some better photo's of the finished job.

I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to do, however I'm not looking forward to pulling out the centre console, heard that its a real bitch.

Cheers

Thanks

just 1 sheet will do all of the interior trim.

still undecided whether to do the top dash box (i have no iDrive) as well.
I think I'll also do the plastic behind the door handles.

worst case if any of it looks bad, you can easily remove it!

Wow! That's a huge saving compared to getting it professionally done, not to mention compared to genuine.

Nice 1. Did you take the parts off the doors etc.. or just lay it over like cling wrap.

I removed all of the interior trim first - The bits I did already are the easiest to remove. I could have removed the trim around the gear stick, but I want to do the ash tray piece at the same time so that I can align the weave better & I didn't really have the time to pull the whole console out.

It all took a couple of hours, while watching TV etc. Could do it all a lot quicker now, it gets a lot easier as you get used to doing the corners using the hair dryer etc.

I was umming and ahhing about whether to get the 3M Di-noc matte CF vinyl or the newer 3M 1080 CF vinyl (which isn't ultra glossy compared to some other CF vinyl wraps). I initially was leaning towards the matte, but I purchased the 1080 as it is easier to work with and more available.

I'm really happy how its turned out so far - thanks for all the positive comments.
I was actually surprised how easy it is to do, especially as getting it done by a pro costs a packet, I just assumed that it was hard to do.
I just wanted to ensure that the weave was all flowing in the same direction.

I'll update with better pics once I've finished it.

cheers

The start button can be pulled out and disconnected, then with a small thin flat screwdriver you can unclip the outer silver ring - then wrap it

Hey mate, looks awesome! My steering wheel is done, and I want to attack the black plastic area around the iDrive knob, but I'm not sure if the knob just pulls off. Any idea? It seems the flat piece of plastic under the iDrive knob, as it falls into the cup holder, is one piece that could be taken off and wrapped before being replaced, I'm just nervous about pulling the iDrive knob off!

Cheers.

Really nice job, beautifully done. I'm not sure about being dazzled by the light from the trim - I've got the industrial look trim in mine, and I wear polarizing sunnies. I will have to say, the wheel looks excellent.

My trim wasn't the textured silver trim, mine is the smooth one, I don't know if it makes a difference. It was mainly the piece that runs along above the glove box that annoyed me.

Did you try carbon daemon? He did my internals for quite a bit less a few years ago, I just had to remove and post down from brisbane.

But the job looks good, exactly the same finish in my interior, far less reflection off the glove box trim for the passenger then the oem silver or carbon finish.
