Align yes or no?

After 30K on the original RFTs - which is pretty good in my book - I changed to Conti Pure Contact and am very happy with them. As usual my tire supplier/installer gave me the Hunter printout and wanted to do an alignment. Tire wear was even all around, no steering wheel pull, and the car tracks great.....I declined. Can those systems accurately measure within a .01 of a degree and are they subject to tampering to show out of spec? I'm not saying I don't trust the vendor but I'm wondering how the tires can wear so well and the car track/feel so well and be 'out of alignment'?
