Star Wars sound effect
Does anyone know why everytime I open a door or close it, after having turned off the engine and removed the key, there is a sound, like a servo motor or something, that comes on ? It appears to come from the rear quarter where the battery is located.
Oh, and what does the thingy that makes the sound do ? |

there are many automatic features in the sophisticated e90.

It does sound a bit star wars. There are many sounds the car makes, With CA as I approach the car makes this quiet little sounds almost like something starting to whirr and tick - like it is greeting you. Then when I open a door or close it the star wars laser sound happens from somewhere inthe rear of the car, then you hear the steering lock engage. Then sometimes the cooling fan stays on after you park the car.... it seems to have a mind and a will of its own! I kind of like it, because it is almost like the car is alive, and you are certainly aware that this is a very complex piece of machinery.

And did anyone notice the sound from the air duct when to open the door and go in the car without starting the engine? I am suspecting that it's opening the vent to the outside air so the people won't get suffocated inside if they don't turn on their car.

I am suspecting this sound to be from some electrical systems. Seems like you hear it everytime you do something that requires the involvement of the electrical system. Door closing/opening, a very brief press of the trunk release button, etc.

I've noticed most sounds are related to things like the interior and trunck lights, and the start buttom illumination.

Thanks From reading that thread I now understand that quite a few people owned VWs that made strange sounds as well. But other than an educated guess that it is the fuel pump pumping, E90Fleet didn't really say much about the number of things our car does as we open the door |

The mystery sound that I hear all the time sounds more like the sound a large size electric vault lock makes when it opens/closes. I usually notice it when I am cleaning the car. In all cases, the doors are unlocked (and have been for awhile), no door has been recently opened or closed, no button on the remote was touched. The car will just be totally silent while I am cleaning away, and then a few minutes later I hear it. I would love to know what it is.
