128i halogen to OE bi-xenons (non-adaptive)...not your typical thread
I've search and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Let's assume that I have a set of OE bi-xenons (non-adaptive) with all the headlight ancillaries (i.e., ballasts, bulbs, etc.). What does it take to retrofit these into a 128i that has halogen lights from the factory? Let's assume for now that I'm not retrofitting the auto-leveling system, just the lights. Will the lights plug into the standard halogen car-side plugs? I assume dealer coding is required to get them to function properly, or is there a workaround? Anything I'm missing?

Buy a pair of compacitors (not sure on specific voltage), skin a small section of wiring leading HID bulbs, rewire the compacitor around the exposed wire, cover with electrical tape, and your set. Or buy a pair of warning code deleters from DDM which only work 50% of the time. If you search you can find some pictures of compacitors wired to the HIDs

have a look at the oem xenon retrofit for the e90 that might give you an idea on the process. Don't know if the xenons simply plug in to the car-side plug, maybe some rewiring is needed. No need for error cancellers as you need a new footwell module for xenons or recode you existing one for xenons.

A OEM xenon retrofit is very popular with the e90 crowd...apparently just need OEM projectors, bulbs & ballasts and a bit of re-wiring.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ighlight=xenon I personally was thinking to buy OEM projector housings and use an aftermarket HID kit. |

You might also need a new headlight switch because they are specific for xeon. The switch talks to the rain sensor. When it rains the rain sensor tells the headlights to turn on WHEN in "auto mode".
