I keep seeing people ask the same questions about PCD, so I thought it would help to post the FAQ from BMWNA. Maybe make this a sticky?
  • What is the BMW Performance Center Delivery program and why should a customer experience it?
[]The BMW Performance Center Delivery program is an exciting and unique opportunity in which a customer and guest can fully experience the BMW culture. Included in the program is a complimentary one-night hotel stay (including meals), professional driving instruction in a BMW similar to the one ordered, a tour of both the BMW Zentrum museum and Manufacturing Plant (when available for public tours), and of course a personalized vehicle delivery presentation by a BMW Product Specialist. Customers can expect nothing but VIP treatment when they opt to take delivery at the BMW Performance Center.
  • What is the cost for a customer to take delivery at the BMW Performance Center? What is the additional cost to the selling BMW center?
[]While customers are responsible for the cost of their personal travel to and from South Carolina, BMW Performance Center Delivery is a no-cost option for both the customer and the center. Customers receive complimentary accommodations and meals for the day of their scheduled delivery (see below).
  • Where in South Carolina is the BMW Performance Center located?
[]The BMW Performance Center neighbors the BMW Manufacturing Plant located in Greer, SC. Despite the close proximity of the two facilities, the BMW Performance Center is operated by BMW of North America, LLC (BMWNA).
  • Are customers limited to taking delivery of only the models made close by at the factory? Which models/vehicles can be delivered to the BMW Performance Center?
[]The BMW Performance Center Delivery program is available for any new BMW model currently in production. Customers must order eligible vehicles from an authorized BMW retail center within the United States. Eligible vehicles do not include CPOs, BMWs sold off the dealer lot, Mini, Rolls-Royce, and Motorrad.
  • Who can take delivery at the BMW Performance Center?
[]Customers who are U.S. residents (18 years of age or older with a valid U.S. driver’s license) registering the vehicle at a valid U.S. address can take delivery at the BMW Performance Center. Participants will be required to sign a waiver to participate as a driver or passenger in any BMW Performance Center (BMWNA) vehicle. Customers younger than 18 years of age must possess valid driver licenses/permits and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian (most likely the person whose name appears on the bill-of-sale/lease agreement/retail installment contract, etc.). Parents accompanying a minor will be required to sign a waiver on the child’s behalf. The waiver covers liability while the customer is involved in any tours, driving activities or other BMW Performance Center activities.
  • Does the $825 Destination and Handling Fee still apply to vehicles delivered at the BMW Performance Center?
[]Yes. This fee applies to all BMW models regardless of whether the vehicle is delivered at the selling BMW center or at the BMW Performance Center.
  • Can the BMW Performance Center transport a vehicle to a customer’s home after delivery?
[]The BMW Performance Center can only transport vehicles to the customer’s selling BMW center. The shipping cost will be at the customer or center’s expense. Upon the customer's or the BMW center's request, the BMW Performance Center can obtain quotes for the shipping charge.
  • When should a customer plan to arrive in South Carolina for a BMW Performance Center Delivery?
[]Based upon a confirmed delivery date, it is at the customer’s discretion to choose an arrival date and time. Typically, customers arrive the day prior to delivery in order to take advantage of the complimentary one-night stay. Customers can choose to arrive a few days before or stay a few nights after delivery, however, all additional expenses (not limited to lodging, meals, gasoline) on these days will be at the customer’s expense.
  • At which hotel will customers receive their complimentary stay and which meals will be provided?
[]BMW Performance Center Delivery customers will be provided accommodations at The Greenville Marriott located at 1 The Parkway East in Greenville, South Carolina 29615. On the night prior to the customer’s scheduled delivery date, the hotel restaurant will serve dinner up until 9:30 pm. For customers arriving after this time, prior arrangements can be made with the BMW Performance Center to have the hotel place a deli tray in the customer’s room. Please call (864) 968-3034 to make these arrangements. The following morning, the hotel restaurant serves breakfast starting at 6:30 am. Lunch on the day of delivery is provided at the BMW Performance Center. Please note: It is the policy of the Greenville Marriott not to allow pets. However, customer’s can pay for pet lodging available at several kennels in the area. The BMW Performance Center can provide a listing of kennels in the area.
  • For customers taking advantage of the complimentary stay at the Greenville Marriott, how are the arrangements made?
[]The BMW Performance Center will make arrangements for customers to stay at the Greenville Marriott. The complimentary stay is provided the evening before delivery (one night double-occupancy) at the Greenville Marriott. Reservations will be made through the Marriott sales office and are usually finalized approximately one week prior to delivery. For any concerns regarding accommodations, please call the BMW Performance Center at (864) 968-3034.
  • For customers choosing to arrive in South Carolina by driving a one-way rental car, where can the vehicle be returned?
[]There are many car rental companies located at the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) including Alamo, National, Avis, Budget, Hertz, and Thrifty. Please check with the applicable rental agency for confirmation of all drop-offs at GSP. Pick up at GSP is provided by the Greenville Marriott courtesy shuttle, (864) 297-0300, and is available from 5:00 am thru 12:00 midnight. For more car rental information at GSP, visit www.gspairport.com.
  • If flying to South Carolina on a commercial aircraft, which airport should a customer utilize and which airline carriers are available there?
[]Customers flying into South Carolina should utilize the Greenville/Spartanburg International Airport (GSP). Visit www.gspairport.com for more details. Available airlines include American Eagle, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Comair, Northwest Airlines, Northwest Air Link, United Express Airlines, U.S. Airways, and U.S. Airways Express. All airlines are subject to change. Visit www.gspairport.com for more information. Pick up at GSP is provided by the Greenville Marriott courtesy shuttle, (864) 297-0300, and is available from 5:00 am thru 12:00 midnight.
  • If flying to South Carolina on a private plane, which airport should a customer utilize?
[]Customers choosing to fly a private plane into Greenville will be directed to land at Stevens Aviation, (864) 879-6155, located adjacent to the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport. Pick up at Stevens Aviation is provided by the Greenville Marriott courtesy shuttle, (864) 297-0300, and is available from 5:00 am thru 12:00 midnight.
  • What if the customer chooses to arrive in South Carolina by train?
[]The customer’s final destination should be the Greenville Train Station. Pick up will be provided by the Greenville Marriott courtesy shuttle, (864) 297-0300, and is available from 5:00 am thru 12:00 midnight. Pick up is not available for customers choosing to arrive at the Spartanburg Train Station. Visit http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/GSPAP for more information.
  • What if a customer is looking to take delivery on a specific date?
[]The BMW Performance Center makes all efforts to accommodate customer delivery requests for a specific date. When submitting a Performance Center Delivery Reservation form, the customer’s client advisor can indicate a desired timeframe.
  • How does the BMW Performance Center determine and schedule customer delivery dates?
[]Customer delivery dates are determined by the production week of the ordered vehicle and are scheduled on a first come first serve basis. If the timing of the ordered vehicle permits, the customer’s client advisor may contact the BMW Performance Center to discuss specific vehicle production weeks that can meet a customer’s requested timeframe. Please note there are some black-out dates throughout the year due to holidays, driving school programs and events that utilize the facility.
  • On which days is the BMW Performance Center Delivery program offered?
[]The BMW Performance Center Delivery program is available to customers Monday thru Friday. Please note there are some black-out dates throughout the year due to holidays, driving school programs and other events that utilize the facility. The BMW Performance Center may close on multiple dates to observe New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
  • Can a customer participate in both the BMW European Delivery program and the BMW Performance Center Delivery program with the same ordered vehicle?
[]Yes, currently a customer can participate in both the BMW European Delivery program and the BMW Performance Center Delivery program with the same ordered vehicle. Please note this is subject to change without notice based on delivery availability at the BWM Performance Center. Due to the uncertainty of shipping times and Custom's processing, a Performance Center Delivery date can not be assigned for European re-delivery vehicles until they have a firm ETA.
  • What time does the BMW Performance Center Delivery program start and what time does it end?
[]Customers and their guests should plan to arrive and meet in the front lobby of the BMW Performance Center no later than 8:00 am. For customers staying at the Greenville Marriott the prior evening, the hotel courtesy shuttle will leave for the BMW Performance Center promptly at 7:45 am. Customers and their guests can expect to rotate as pairs randomly through the 3 different two-hour modules of driving instruction, plant and museum tour, and vehicle presentations. Typically, the BMW Performance Center Delivery program ends around 3:30 pm.
  • What types of exercises will customers experience during the BMW Performance Center Delivery driving module and whose cars are used?
[]After a brief classroom session with a BMW Driving Instructor, customers will gain access behind the wheel of one of the BMW Performance Center Fleet vehicles that most closely matches the model ordered. Customers will experience exercises in handling, braking and traction control. Customers taking delivery of an X3 or X5 will also have the opportunity to explore the vehicle's capabilities on the BMW Performance Center’s "Other Roads" course.

thx, quite clear.

Questions I have: How is PCD reflected on one's order form? Is there an BMW option code applicable? Will it show on the build sheet under option code or otherwise?

It's handeled after the order is placed. Once my order was put in my CA contacted them in South Carolina and set it up. I assume he just gave them the Production #. It took less than 5 mins to set up.

According to the bmw website you may be able to schedule it yourself.

To learn more about the Delivery program, please call (888) 345-4269

You won't get a PCD date until your car ships back to the U.S. and clears customs then is released by the VPC. Only then will your CA get an email from the Performance center with next availble delivery date.

My car took 10 days after unloading at port to clear customs and VPC. The PCD dates are running about 2-3 weeks from that date.

It's a pretty brutal wait from ED drop off to PCD redelivery. My drop off was June 9th, and PCD will be August 11th.

Sounds about the same for me. I have ED September 7th and was hoping to be doing PCD in October but I guess not.

This thread deserves a pic of 1M in front of Performance Center. It was an excellent day at the PC. No shortage of 1Ms at PC. There is one in every direction you look.
1M has amazing handling on slalom.

Hi all, I've elected to do PCD for my coming 1M. Had a question about the delivery aspect of the car.

I'm assuming this a true delivery, in that the car goes from the docks upon arriving stateside straight to the performance center? Or does it go to the dealer you purchased from and then sent to the performance center closer to your scheduled attendence?

What I'm getting at is, will I avoid all the dealer "prep" stuff (i.e., tagging the car with dealer logos, drilling for front bumpers, etc.)? I'd like my baby to be as unmolested as possible when I take delivery.

I believe the vehicle comes thru New Brunswick, GA for the port of entry. If doing ED first, it comes thru the VPC in New Jersey. From either VPC, it goes to Spartanburg for PCD. Depending on when your PCD is, the vehicle may sit outside for a bit at the VPC.

The PCD will not drill one hole in your bumper unless you're physically present and give them verbal permission to do so. No dealer prep crap will be installed, since it won't see the dealership. If anyone is gonna be molesting this thing, it's gonna be me!?!?

ED deliveries require the vehicle to clear customs before PCD can be scheduled, where as, non-ED PCD deliveries can be booked when the vehicle enters production-ish. The PCD will go thru the ins and outs of the vehicle with you, unless you've already done this with ED.

I found this out today--->no kids under 12 for the driving courses or the factory tour due to ins liability purposes.

I plan on bringing a shit load of blue painters tape or track tape for protection for the drive home.

When my car came in back in 2008, it went through the port of Charleston before heading to the PDC, that may have changed since then. My car is on the Asian Emperor and has stops in both Charleston and Brunswick so I cant really tell where its coming in this time.

Did any of you with PCD dates soon also do an ED?

My car just cleared customs and VPC on Friday, but still haven't gotten my actual delivery date yet. Trying to figure out when I can expect to get a date in SC?

My 1M is finally home. Euro delivery on June 8th, drop off June 9th. PCD redelivery on August 11th. What a great time I had at the Performance Center!
You are reminded that it is NYC "Not Your Car" and ok to drive very aggressively

I was able to break my car in on the Autobahn and the Dragon

Around 2 weeks at the earliest I believe. I got my date the same day it cleared the VPC. They will email your CA with first available, so check with them.

So, knowing that the Performance Center is backed up (well, currently. it could get back on schedule when the summer ends) and the car could sit at the VDC/VPC for a bit, say for a month. Are the cars covered, enclosed or otherwise protected from the elements prior to prep and shipping? Or do they wait to do all the prep closer to time of actual delivery and the car just sits out there with the wax on it?
