You could be feeling the car building boost/letting it off as the rpms build. Iveseen more than one dyno graph where the TQ curves wavy throughout the lower/mid rpm range and smooths out for the end.

I couldn't agree with you more. You will get a whole lot more functionality and accessibility with the COBB AP. You do get free software and map updates for life that be downloaded straight from the COBB AP Manager software. Not to mention that the COBB AP does allow for you to do live data logging, trouble shoot and scan codes, and of course switch maps on the fly as well! Installation is simple and it literally takes 10 minutes to download your stock map to the COBB AP and 8-10 minutes to flash your car to the stage 1 map. All of which you can simply do in the comfort of your drivers seat! You can also export your stock map on your computer to back it up just in case you do ever lose your COBB AP Hand held unit. You can also export all of your data logs to your PC as well.
Which Beta maps are available? I emailed cobb asking about an updated map with a boost spike fix, but no response yet. My AP manager doesnt contain any beta maps. I hooked up my AP and it says my firmware is up to date.

Where can we find beta maps?

In the AP Manager click Options and check the box for Check for beta firmware.

Multi-part question, annoying digging

I have upgraded downpipes with high flow cats or not cats at all and I am getting a Check Engine Light for rear O2 sensor codes. Will the AccessPORT be able to turn these codes off?
The ECU uses the rear O2 sensors in daily operation, and these need to remain in the exhaust system for proper engine function. The AccessPORT has the ability to keep the cat inefficiency codes from being thrown on the N54 while maintining proper operation of the O2 sensors when there are no cats or aftermarket cats. Stage2 calibrations will have these codes turned off when they become available.

Does it keep the inefficiency codes from being thrown with the Accessport disconnected? Or does it have to be connected?

Is Map 0 - Stock simulation Cobb's version of the stock boost or is this the spot where if we're backing up the ECU this would be where it is?

If we are still running the "before" ECU, can we still data log?

If the answer to stock simulation is Cobb's version, will it adapt? Basically, if this has boost parameters based on a perfectly stock 135i, then race catted downpipes are put onto the car, will it adapt to its new flow dynamics?

long into short, i'd be racing in a class that we're NOT supposed to electronically increase boost, but if it increases from other allowed modifications, it's all kosher. They also would want me to not have the maps available on hand, so this solution might be perfect. But if it doesn't stop a CEL from my race cats while the accessport is stowed away, it wouldn't help me.

Also, does the Cobb tune adjust the throttle by wire at all?

(First post, YAY!!!)
I'm seriously looking into the cobb tuner and Ijust have a quick question. Now that the software has been out for a while, how often are people still running into the "unsupported rom" problem? My car is an US 08(01/08 build date), manual trans, and completely stock. This may seem a bit prickish but I'm not excited at all about spending nearly a grand on a product and then after waiting for it to arrive, have it not work and just have to wait again.

Thanks for the help, I ran across that same answer many times early in this thread I was just hoping that maybe unsupported DME for N54s had pretty much been resolved. I guess it is still early though. Ill probably pick it up first chance I get. I just get the feeling that I'm paying a premium over what the subi, dsm and mazda guys are paying for no reason, then again i'll be the first admitt I'm no expert at writing/coding roms.

I had no problems with the AP recognizing my ROM, and I think as time goes on this problem will be less likely. Hit up Sal@AutoCOUTURE, he'll get you a great price on the AP!

Unsupported Rom for 08+ are not as likely as 07 since 07 is in beta and new.

As time progresses the likelihood of unsupported roms because less.

Someone asked if a catless DP will throw a CEL and the answer is yes on stage 1.

I believe Stage 2 when it becomes available should fix this.

You can always purchase a DP Fix in the time being if the CEL annoys you.

The car will still perform with or without the CEL.

Yea I'm not sure about EU models.

The Stage 2 US should be coming out very soon last I heard.

I have a US address and an APO. My car IS a US spec car.

I think I am tired of waiting... I might just get a German flash tune. 380PS/540Nm and a top speed of 290ish (kph) here I come!

Why not just get the Cobb unit now with Stage 1. Stage 2 is just around the corner anyway. In the future you will also have the ability to protune and tune yourself if you so incline.

Finally got the chance to install my AP today......holy shit what a difference, this is what the car should have felt like from the factory. Did not get to drive very much but I am looking forward to my commute tomorrow. Well worth the money, everyone should be up on this. I can't wait to explore the potential of the AP. Way to go COBB!!
I just ordered a full set of the Cool Carbon street/track pads and a set of BMW Performance rotors to help slow things down when needed. I will be installing them next weekend, I can definitely tell that they are going to be needed.

The cool carbon pads are great in that they are more linear and smoother braking as opposed to the insta-hard brake feel of the stock pads. However Im telling you from experience, make sure whoever installs them uses plenty of noise-quiet or the red stuff I forget what its called I think its NoiseFree on the backs of the pads and inside the calipers, otherwise they will be noisy after about 1k miles of regular braking. My squeal usually in warmer temps. Im hesitant on whether I want to keep these or change em out for stoptech or Hawks.

I've said this from the get go. It's hard to fathom leaving all that power on the table for 500-900 bucks for the addicts here. My jb3 tuner beat my car's delivery...

switched to cobb so i don't have to tear the ecu apart over and over again each time i went back to the dealer.

I am going to do the install....I know that some pads come with the little squeeze packets of the stuff to put on the backs of the pads...do the Cool Carbon's? If not I know that they sell that stuff a like Pepboys or AutoZone. Thanks for the heads up.

LOVING THE COBB BY THE WAY. Made driving to work that much more entertaining!!
