You know that video where the BMW is flooded...

and the girl climbs in through the trunk?

Friend got stuck in almost 4ft of water storm out this way, and not sure if there's anything that should immediately be done?

Any thoughts, insight, etc?

scary!!
Things to check. Open up the air box and check air filter.
I would change the oil and oil filter immediately.
Remove matts and check front and rear floor boards for wetness.
It appears you lucked out.............

Surprisingly the intake/air box area seems to be alright... a VERY surprising lack of moisture. I firmly believe a LITTLE bit of water got through, but hoping/guessing it burnt out?

Wow. You got seriously lucky! Hydrolocking = buy a new $15,000 engine. I'm assuming you have the stock airbox? Why exactly did you have to forge through the Nile? lol

If the carpet is wet you could try using a wet/dry shop vacumn to remove some of the water. The headlight bulbs on mine are in a little compartment with a cover held on by a wire clip. I would remove the cover in case any water got in there.

You apparently did not get enough water in the engine to fill the combustion chamber (hydro lock it) so if any got in it was vaporized and is gone. If any got in the oil a change will get rid of at least the vast majority of it. You may have also gotten water in the transmission or rear end so a change in fluids would be a good idea. I do not know much about BMW wheel bearings but there may be a need for some attention there but probably not.

Yikes! Up to and past the windshield! I would use my car insurance and write the car off as flood damage. Mold and electrical damage are the two things you will encounter, no matter how much you try to dry the car out; that is if you got any water inside the car. good luck.

He had to ... was at a light and the river was already overflowing...saw cars behind me starting to float away (literally). either I had to start moving,, and get outta there, or stop the car, and hope to hell the thing didn't float away. (plus the damage done by that).

It literally reached 3-4 feet within a matter of a minute or 2.

Thanks for the tip with the headlight bulbs...that's the only actual problem I had this morning as well, was the headlights aren't working.

We're really hoping his car is covered by warranty

I would claim that I got caught in a flash flood. Im sure others will be filing claims, if you saw others already floating down the road. Unless someone has you on film driving through the water (or posting on a forum) that you went through the water on your own decision, i wouldn't write it off. The electrical issues will only get worse, from my experience. good luck.

Thanks for the insight, he's keeping that in mind if it comes to that
