New radiator, which hoses to replace?
I'm swapping my radiator and I figured I might as well get some fresh hoses also. I'm thinking just the upper and lower radiator hoses. Any others that are worth replacing? My car's an 09 with about 101k miles.

Hmmm well, the crossover pipe that clips in above the radiator/fan shroud is fragile. On a high mileage/old age car, it's a pretty high chance you'll fracture it or its connection to the top hose but since you are changing that, just check that it comes with the crossover pipe. I cant remember if it does.
The hoses rarely blow up. They usually fail because of oil contamination softening and swelling up the rubber causing it to rupture or split, or oil contamination of the non-replaceable sealing rings inside the plastic couplings which causes them to swell and when allowed to relax when disconnected, they are impossible to refit. The other reason is because the plastic couplings shatter during removal or accidental contact. My advice here is to remove the metal clips completely (so you also dont ricochet and lose it during sudden release) then spray a good amount of Wurth Rubber Care spray into the now exposed slits. Not sure if that spray is sold in America though, im not sure of the equivalent but i've used silicone spray when ive run out of Rubber Care before. |
