Advice Needed - Bird Crap and Holidays

Hi,

My 1 coupe is arriving in September about a week before I leave for a two week holiday.

My worry is that whilst I am away the car will get covered in bird crap which etches the paint on my new car.

I have got the supagard kit to put on when it arrives and was thinking of putting P21 wax on top of what as well for extra protection.

I don't really want the expense of a cover and the possibility of it sratching the paint.

Any suggestions? What would you do?

While I generally don't allow the bird crap (damn robins!) to stay on the car more than a few days, I find that having a well waxed surface using carnauba paste wax (my preference is Zymol) allows me to easily remove it with a wet paper towel. Although not really necessary, I then dry the area with a microfiber cloth and apply a speedshine like Field Glaze.

Put it in your garage or cover it up with a car cover!

I would go the car cover route. Just using a car cover every now and then shouldn't do much damage to the vehicle. I have a feeling leaving it out in the open for two weeks without a cover will do more damage.

A cover will protect your car from bird droppings. I'd do it.

SpeedShine and 100% cotton towels are in the trunk at all times. Most of my '135 time' takes place in the mountains, lots of critters about. The 'kit' has come in handy more than once, particularly the time a big fat deposit splatted on the windshield, directly in front of the steering wheel. Icky though funny at the same time.

Can you pick it up after holiday?

Without a car cover, you will be SOL with any bird droppings...no matter how much wax is on the car....the droppings will get acidic over time and leave etching and possible pittings....

On a former car, I left bird crap on there too long and yes, it'll eat right into it forever. Bite the bullet, spend the money and get a cover. Much cheaper than a re-paint! Make sure the car is pristine prior to putting it on and get a good cover that fits well and won't blow all over the place.

Car covers are the best investment to save your exterior from bird crap. Get one that fits your car. I had made a mistake of buying a big one for my car and I ended up having more trouble keeping it in place when the wind came and blew it away.
