funny that initial huge bite is what is prefered on track conditions, where your brakes are colder and you wanna do initial big braking.

It’s kind of trool’ish to me. He is confused on why people replace so called “free” brake pads with others. I went with the Cool Carbons because they perform better then stock in my opinion and I like the characteristics better. Kind of kin to why people replace stock RFTs with other tire types and brands. The logic is no different but you don’t hear people making fun of the RFT haters (including me) out there.
I wish people would refrain from posting if they don’t have any thing constructive to say. It’s so boring. Last edited by Cisitalia; 05-11-2010 at 01:19 PM.. Reason: sp |

Besides, why do people modify their perfectly good cars? Because they do, live with it.

I've found the initial bite on cool carbons equal to or better than that of stock pads after approx 300-400 miles of normal street use. Pedal feel is better and they handle heat better on the track not to mention make far less dust than stock pads.

Glad you're happy. It's amazing how much different a set of pads can make your 1er's drive that much more enjoyable.

I am getting used to them, they are MUCH more predictable than the stock pads. Stock pads were like an on/off switch which was very hard to modulate. These are very linear and I am beginning to like the feel because I can control the braking through a wider range of foot pressure. They brake hard too.

So these touchy brakepads that street douchebags like me can't stand are great for track? And that's why BMW puts them on the same car that has a CDV and can't have LSD or non-RFTs?
I'll bet there's an equally good reason for combining mountains of red brake dust with stock wheels that are painted almost white. Probably similar to the reason for polarizing the radio dial sideways. lol |

Interesting, ive put about 200 miles on these so far, the performance is kickass, but I get some high pitched squealing from my left side occasionally. Happens only at bout 50% braking pressure going over 30mph, noise goes away when braking any harder or softer. eas says these pads are not supposed to make any noise so Im thinking maybe its the hardware, i dunno
Im hoping this noise goes away after a lil more wear, anyone have any input? Im thinkin the guy that installed these must have put atleast some kind of noise-quiet stuff on the pads beforehand, just emailed them now.. |

I get a slight squeal in one of mine too, and I thoroughly covered all the required surfaces with Brake Quiet. I also cleaned / greased all the Pad / Caliper contact slots.
The squeal is minor though, and Im gonna wait to see if it goes away on its own. Other than that, Im really happy w/ the pads.

EFFECTIVE, SILENT, DUSTLESS. Choose any two. Every couple of years, the new MIRACLE pad comes along and John Q. Retard thinks he found the Holy Grail. Explanation: John Q. Retard just fell off the turnip truck. Spend your money how you like; it's your money. There are a LOT of things that suck on a 135i, and if you want to put your money toward fixing what ain't broke, good luck with that. |

Alternatively, you could attempt to get better at the things at which you suck, instead of "solving" your inadequacies with new mods. Just a though. The stock pads are hardly lightswitches. Try a Hawk HT-10 pad if you want something with some real initial bite. If you don't have the resolution in your right foot to contend with the STOCK BRAKE PADS ON A COMPLETELY BENIGN BMW 135i, then I recommend you get some driver training. Wash, rinse, repeat until capable. |

Yes, I think his name really is Alexander Dumbass...
ianc P.S. - Bradford, if you want to see how brakes really should feel, ask someone to let you drive one of their Porsches at the track sometime. You'll be amazed...
