Coupe or Convertible? Must have opinions!
Okay.. so I'm looking to get a BMW in the coming months, and I just cannot decide on this!!
Here's my opinions, tell me yours! BMW 135i Coupe ------ Awesome car, awesome price, only downside is top down is cooler than top up, hence my considering a vert BMW 135i Convertible ------- Awesome car as well. The only problem is that I absolutely HATE how cars look with the soft top up!!! And it would be up assuming its cold (unless maybe you put on the heated seats? any info on this?) BMW 335i Coupe ---- I see no point in getting this car BMW 335i Convertible ----- Slower than the 135i coupe.. and I am under the impression it is even slower than the 335i coupe. The only thing is that it is a HARDTOP convertible, so it looks good if the top is up OR down! Anyone know the 0-60 on this? I heard 4.8-5.5 for coupe, but vert would be slower I thought. So.. there's my thoughts and concerns.. what are your opinions! (I do realize I'm asking a 1 series forum, so there might be some bias) And please don't turn this into an argument about only women and old men driving verts. I'm a 19y/o guy and am not someone going through his midlife crisis lol Dave EDIT: Anyone know the lease prices for the 135i vert and coupe? I know theres a "lease deal" for the 335i that's $5000 down with $649/mo. That's not too bad at all. Last edited by Epidemic; 03-29-2009 at 09:18 PM.. |

I think hardtop verts look stupid. They are having an identity crisis. And why does everyone hate the look of the 1ers top? I think it is a very nice looking softop.

I don't think the 135i soft top looks bad. I just don't like the look of soft tops in general. Anyway, I'm a younger guy as well.. any regrets on the vert?
I just think top down it looks better than the coupe, but top up it looks worse than the coupe. Tough decision! |

I had that choice too. I almost went coupe honestly. But then I test drove a coupe and vert in the same morning. I knew right then what I wanted. In the end its a personal choice. But I think the vert looks better in certain colors. Like I know the vert looks better in SGM than the coupe because ive seen them side by side.
Its more about the color of the car. And whether or not you really want a vert. But please, whatever you do, dont go 3er vert. and btw...my 135i vert costs me $414 a month. Granted I leased it. But I will finance the remainder of the lease payments and it works out to be slightly cheaper than a straight finance.

Ohhhhhh I hate you now. I love LMB. Honestly if I knew LMB would be an 09 color when I ordered my vert I would not have gotten SGM. The vert looks great in that color. Good call.

What about with weather? I live in NJ half the year and upper NY half the year. This being said, it's definitely cold sometimes..
I have heard though that it isn't bad if you just get the heated seats and when its cold, put the top down and turn on the heated seats! I could be wrong though And any ideas on what I'd pay for leasing the coupe or vert? |

I fail to see your logic here about "top down cooler than top up"... not sure what the climate is around your area, but in Australia if you're driving around on a sunny 35+ degree celcius day with your top down you won't be thinking top down is cooler than top up with the A/C on.

In fact my top has been up and down so much that the top has come out of alignment. My dealer has to take the top out of the car and retighten it. Ive apparently put 3 years woth of wear on the top in 8 months.

go for the vert.. I hated the look of the back side of the coupe it almost looks like they attatched a trunk to a hatchback...I have my top down anytime it is sunny and +10 celsius... seat warmers work great with heat on level 2..

I had the same debate over the 135i 'vert vs. the 335i 'vert. The 335i is heavier, slower, more expensive, and has less trunk space. IMO I don't like how the hard-top looks, but that's just my opinion. No problems with getting cold in the 135i 'vert with the top up. It's very well insulated. Top down, the HVAC kicks into convertible mode. Also, seat warmers are advised and will keep your buns toasty. Once you have a 'vert you will LOVE how it looks top up or down, but down is obviously the winner. BTW - the M Sport package is cheaper on the 'vert since it already has an anthracite headliner. 'Course base price of the 'vert is $5K more. |

Watch that lease price, that is high for even the 3Series. M3's are leasing in that range.
As always, vert vs coupe is a personal choice. You have to evaluate your own lifestyle, location, etc etc etc. Everyone is different. I can tell you that in 40 degree weather, top down with heat blasting is fine, so if you had heated seats as well, no worries. Vert's are going to be about .01 to .02 slower than their coupe counterpart, but the sacrifice is worth it if you are a topless type guy, meaning you like your cars to be like your women: small and topless. Works for me. Also, for space on the vert's, the 135cic has only 2 inches less space in rear seats and a BIGGER trunk than the 335cic when the top is down (hardtop takes more space folded up than the ragtop). I had the 3, and now that I have the 1, I never look back. The 1 just has that truer driving feeling that the 3 lacks. We are called 1Addicts for a reason.

Nope,to Epidemic, that $649/month lease rate, as compared to M3 at $669/month, the M3 would be the better deal. I didn't even notice if you commented on your rate or purchase price.
Although, you are in NY area, I would hate to see your prices, especially with the taxes, ouch!
