My turn for a new 128i

Just ordered a new 128i from BMW in The Woodlands, TX, and could not be more pleased with my experience. It was the most hassle-free car buying experience of my life thanks to Robert. I walked in, said I wanted a loaded 128i, offered $500 over invoice, and the deal was done. It was literally that fast and simple.

The build is:

Manual transmission

Alpine White
Convenience Package
Premium Package 2
Oyster Leather
Anthracite Trim
M Sport Package
Nav
Harmon Kardon
Cold weather package

Thanks again to Robert. Now comes the dreaded wait that will seem to last a lifetime.

Thank you, guys. I would love to do th PC delivery, but I unfortunately won't be able to take any time off work to fit that into my schedule. I'm also doing a lease this time around, so that would add about another thousand miles to the odometer that I'd prefer to use for my job transfer in May that will be taking me from Houston to Chicago.

Thanks. Same to you. Mine just finished production and is waiting for a ship now. Still have quite a bit of waiting to do unfortunately. Why can't it just be here already???

How long did it take from start of production until end of production ? Basically, how long did it take for them to physically build it ?

From the time it entered production to the time it show finished and awaiting transport was only about a week. Maybe eight or nine days tops.

From the time I placed my order it was a little over two weeks before it entered production.

I have no idea how long it will take to get on a boat. And I will have to refresh myself on tracking the ship if it is on a ship that can be tracked. Looks like some of the tracking threads seem a little outdated. If anyone has any current info I would not mind if they shared it.

Mine took about a week from end of production to getting on the boat but your mileage may vary.

The 6mt is the best option for a 128. Great car, congrats!!

That sounds about the norm for people lately. I've still got my fingers crossed for shipping miracle though. This wait is killing me and it is probably only about half over.

I agree. Never driven the 128 in a manual before but I'm sure it will be awesome. My E90 was a 6MT and so is my current 135. Both were and are very fun.

that's not too bad then. I thought it was going to take 30 days or so to assemble the vehicle, 8 or 9 days tops is FAST. Makes me even more excited for mine. Hopefully I can get mine is April, i dont want to extend my current lease another month.

Thanks for the info.

Actually building the car seems the the shortest part of the total wait time.

My CA just emailed me and said mine should be in 'any day now'.
But I was watching the news the morning and apparently I91 was shut down due to an accident. They went on to say the accident was caused by a flipped over car carrier. My wife looked at me and laughed as I had a look of horror on my face!

I was involved in an accident (got rear ended by a huge pickup truck which then shot me into the car in front of me) back in December. I'm one of those people that belong to the "once it is in an accident, I'm getting rid of it because it will never quite be the same" camp. It wasn't a terrible wreck, but it did cause about $8500 worth of damage and took a solid month to repair.

After getting the car back, it does seem to drive ok, but as much as I love the insane torque and power, it just doesn't feel like the same car it used to be. So it was time to get a new ride.

I love the 1 series a lot, so that choice was pretty simple. The more difficult choice was, for the same price range, do I get a loaded 128 or another 135 with far fewer options. Maybe it is just the same thing that so many others go through as they get older (I am an old 40 year old now), but I decided I'd rather have more of the luxury features and toys and sacrifice the power of the 135 to do so.

I will miss all that power. Make no mistake about that. But my opportunities to use it are few and far between. I drive way too fast as it is and have been very lucky to not drive my way into a heap of tickets. I'm hoping the 128 can cure a bit of that. I'm also moving to Chicago in a few months for a job transfer, so I'll be back to winter driving next winter after almost 20 years. I'll definitely be
running a winter setup, but I think a little less power going to those rear wheels might make my life slightly better on those snowy days.

I guess that's the long and short of it.

I couldn't imagine the horror if that happed after waiting all that time for your (or any of ours for that matter) beautiful brand new baby. I get the chills just thinking about it.

Well that's good news. Do you know how long the car sits and waits for that one-day train ride?

Looks like I got my own answer from the 800 number. My car is currently on the train and on its way to the port of exit as we speak! Yay!
