Yokohama AD-08 -- first drive

Hey Everyone,

Just got back from my first time out with my Yokohama AD-08s. My car is completely stock, and I'm running 225/40s in the front, with 255/35s in the back. These tires were heaven. I beat my old best lap by 3 seconds.

Get rid of your run flats and get these. They're amazing, and fit perfectly on a bone stock 135i without rubbing.

I've got the Pilot Super Sports on my street wheels, and the AD08's on the AutoX wheels. I have to agree, those AD08's have amazing grip.

Ran the PSS last season for DD/AutoX/Track and the AD08's this year for everything. I'm sold on the AD08's as a superior tire for good conditions. The grip is vastly higher, the tires feel more compliant and quieter for DD, and they wear much better on the outside edges as they're more square instead of being rounded off like the PSS. But those features are not fantastic when it's wet out. The PSS are really good for bad conditions.

They're both really good tires and far superior to RFT, but each have very different strengths. But for Cali and good weather, I'll stay with the AD08's for as many seasons as they make them.

Now that you mention 255's... where do people feel like we start to reach a point of diminishing returns with tire width? I know 255 is supposed to be noticeably better than 245, but is there much benefit in going up to 275 (assuming rolled fenders)?

I think the biggest problem with our cars on the track is understeer. The key to mitigating that understeer is more grip on the front. I would worry that going up to a 275 in the back without really making massive grip improvements on the front would do more harm than good. I'm not a pro, but that's just my sense.

I did 3š negative camber on the front with 10mm wider front and back. I had substantially less understeer and way better turn in.

What about 245 front and 265 rear with increased camber and M3 bits up front?

That's the ideal tire size for our cars imo. especially if you're running a tune

NICE!

I was looking for this info for about 6 days in the entire 1addict forum (a stock 135i M Sport with stock 261 wheels using AD08 225/40R18 and 255/35R18).

80% of the forum says "Yeah, go ahead no problem" and the other 20% says "No f*** way man! Tremendous rubbing and you will be forced to roll the fenders"

Hey dsdubs, Did you try use the car with a passenger? Is it possible to fit this tires with non-track camber (such -1.5°) I'm almost buying there tires and I need the final push/motivation.

Thanks in advance!!!

Yes. In fact, I had a passenger on the track. The track has a lot of elevation changes and a few really hard knocks from some repaving. No rubbing at all.

I'm on the 2011 stock wheels, stock suspension, no engine tune, nada. Just the tires and camber plates.

Hi dsdubs, can you clarify on the camber plates ?
If you did not use these would it rub ?
it seems these tires AD-08 is even wider than the Michelin Pilot Sports. For this reason i went w/ the Bridgestone S-04.

Thanks.

I have 18" Advan RZs with 225/255 AD08s, m3 front control arms and front camber at -1.5degrees,
I get a little bit of rubbing if going fast on bumpy roads.

Hey my chilean friend! Im using that model with those sizes, fits perfect. 3 trackdays and they still looking good Amazing tires

You cant compare these against de stock runflats, two differents worlds

Also I have been driving in trackdays with passengers (Latanga, Gerfat, Raff from UP) and no problem... Just Go ahead!!

On stock rims would it be safer if I use these tires in the rear with 245/35/18? In the front 225/40/18s??
No mods whatsoever.
How are these tires for non-track use ? Do these wear fast ???

I think is always better add the same measure in front and rear.

AD08 are not the best for rainy days of course, but are great for dailys and eventual tdīs. One of the best street legal tires IMO
