How often do you red line on mountain drives? Seriously, you don't even need half of what your car already can produce. Invest in a driving skills class if you want to go fast on winding roads and not kill anyone or yourself.
Take your racing to the track and you will be humbled. The limits of your car is already way above your own limits. People have all the fun they can take with 100HP cars at the track. |

Hey guys so I just installed my Cobb AP today. I have just a stock 135 with just this I loaded the Sport tune on but was wondering if people recommended the linear map over the regular one. I feel like the throttle is a bit jumpy or something with the regular map from playing around with it so far.

I just got my AP and installed stage 1 aggressive linear throttle. My car is all stock as well. I haven't tried the progressive throttle, but I figured the linear map would act more like a mechanical throttle. So far I like it, the pedal isnt touchy at all. If i need more speed, I can still just mash the throttle and the thing takes off like a rocket, no matter what gear.
One thing i did notice, is that sometimes the power comes on in "steps", not smooth like stock. Haven't really figured exactly what causes it or if it's random. It's not really a big deal, but was wondering if anyone else experienced the same thing. Maybe the ECU just needs more time to adapt? Overall I am very pleased with the AP. My car stock used to be pretty even with my buddys STi with a custom stage 1 Pro Tune via Accessport. We would be pretty even on the straight at Lime Rock, until he needed 5th right at the start/finish line, then I would pull on him still in 4th. Now, I don't think it will even be a contest. . Too bad we both track Miatas now so I don't think I'll ever see.

Is stage 1 from COBB safe on a completely stock 135? I dont push my car to the limits and no trackdriving.
I just dont want to push the component on my car to much so I´m afraid I´ll break it if I map it. Or do I dont have to worry about that with stage 1 ? |

Anybody know if Cobb has plans to
1. tweak the target AFR in closed loop mode to increase the gas mileage a bit. Not sure how much it will make a difference on these engines. 2. Adjust some sort of smoothing of the traction control where when you hit the DTC button it slowly dials back power to the point of usable power, my Acura TL was amazing at doing this stock even in wet conditions. 3. Did I miss the answer to whether there would be ability to do full throttle shifts. Also has anybody had any issues with power cutting off when slamming gears. I slammed from 3rd to 4th today at about 6K and there a a definite pause in power for about a second. |

Not sure if Cobb can do it or not but there is plenty of scope for better fuel consumption... The engines are designed to run in stratified charge mode (basically very lean burn with open throttle to reduce pumping losses) however they (BMW) don't tune them this way due to issues with poisoning the cat when running in this mode due to the sulfur contend in fuels outside of Germany. So really the best aspects of DI are totally wasted and the engine is run just on the lean side of stoichiometric.

Revised stage 2+ maps, meth and ATP/ATR are what Rob and crew are focusing on now. Big turbo(s), on the fly map switching, auto-trans logic manipulation and a few other goodies are all planned, but all that's going to take time. |
