Just made the call

Well I just phoned my not so local BMW dealer (I live in Orlando but my family has been dealing with this guy at Vista BMW in South Florida for a while) to find out about the new 1 series and whether or not I can place an order for one. As soon as he gets back to me I will update everyone else. Are dealers really taking orders for this car already???

I know someone at a dealership. He said they've already been getting calls about it as well

That's crazy, I wonder how it works since they don't know pricing or packaging info yet...I guess i'll wait and see.

Some of these dealers, ask for a BIG deposit. Someone I know on here got quoted 1500bucks on a deposit for the 1 coupe b/c they anticipate it being a HOT SELLER. 1500 for a deposit bogus...thats more like a down payment. Sheesh.

Btw, I sent you a PM lips.

Got the PM, I know I won't have to put a deposit at this particular dealer. My parents have purchased 4 cars from this guy in the past 4 years, 2 more from my grandparents and 2 from family friends. My mom recently ordered the new 328 convertible with no deposit so I don't think it will be an issue.

I agree, but I refuse to put anything down given how far out we are. Some dealers may play games, but lucky for me I have a dealership that is reasonably fair.

I placed an order and my dealer asked for nothing.

How did you choose options or packages if we are unsure what they will be?

Just an update for everyone. My salesman called me back this afternoon and told me that he got to sit in the new 135 during some BMW meetings and that it was awesome. BMW asked for the people in the meetings input on pricing and they all agreed it should be $10,000 less than the 335 or $32k and BMW executives laughed at them. They told him it would probably be 3-4k less which does not seem like a big enough gap to me. This is just what he said but I still expect the car to come in at 35k with options putting at 3-4k less than the 335. Either way he said as soon as they get info on pricing he will call me and let me place an order.

If the rumors are true about BMW's raising the price of the 3 series, then some of us could be in trouble. Oh well, a 128i won't be too bad.

I live in the Central Florida area as well and may need to put a deposit down soon....

I always hear Fields is outrageous....

Anyways, if the 135i is 40K, BMW is gonna swing and miss once again in the US...

EDIT: I got to thinking...

3-4K off of a 335i is 34-36K depending on whether they were referring to a E90 or E92...

Either way, that sounds good to me... options and still around the mid 30's....

Yeah, I wouldn't get too caught up in the numbes just yet because you know how dealerships are when it comes to accurate information. Anyways Fields does suck and if you are willing to put in the drive definitely give Vista BMW a call and ask for John Ponholzer. Just tell him Derek referred you.

Thanks man...

I'm not really going to be driving, I want to pick up the car at the BMW Performance Delivery Center, so I may only have to make one trip to Vista to pay for the car...

What deal did they make you? I think 500ish off MSRP right now is a fair bargain...

I haven't bought the car yet because I want to find out what the exact price will be before I do anything. I have narrowed it down to G37, 335i, and 135i. I am leaning towards the 1, but that all depends on what price it comes in at. Also, my lease on my G35 is not up until the end of 2008 so unless I strike a deal sooner I won't be getting the car until then which should give them time to work out any bugs in the first run of production in the US.

My buddy drives a Mazda 6 and is also looking at the new 1 for his next car.

I went to Fields BMW in Orlando today and was told they are not taking pre orders yet. He said some time in October.

I went to Shelly BMW here in Buena Park, California and they've told me that all they know right now is that the 135i engine is twinturbo and that they do not know anything other specs or details other than that. :bs:

Wow... they really put a lot effort into their response.

With that kind of help, I would look elsewhere.

Yeah. That's why I told them, "I already know that. Why else would I be here if I know that already?"
Guy just got a little tossed with my remark and had that look of, "Look kid you're not going to buy, you're wasting my time, get out" look on his face. To the person I spoke with at Shelly --> :middlefin Don't disrespect a potential customer. :respekt:every customer as if they're going to buy that very minute.

FYI, all of these cars you would be ordering come out of the dealership's allocation, which is based on sales numbers and customer ratings in the recent past. They won't have an unlimited number of allocation slots and will likely sell out for the first few months.

There is an exception though. European Delivery cars do not come out of their allocation. So, in addition to getting a discount(though we don;t know how much that discount will be for the 1er) and being able to drive in Europe, you don't have top deal with the dealership selling out there allocation slots for the month.

Just something to think of!

Great point. Thanks!

European Delivery is looking better and better.
