Will the next gen ( 2 series) be better than e82

So what do you guys think.I think it will pull out some impressive numbers but might fail in the overall driving pleasure dept.

i don't like the way it looks from the spy shots....losing all the character of the 1. after driving the F30 recently and finding it VERY disappointing....i don't have high hopes for the 2, unfortunately!

Excuse my lack of research... Will the 2 have electric steering?

I like the way the new car looks but I'm a little disappointed with the supposed dimensions of the new car. It's going to be nearly as large as an E9X which isn't very characteristic of a "baby BMW" coupe.

If the 2 series will follow the same trend as the 4 series in comparison to the 3 series, then it will have a better EPS and possibly feel stiffer than the 1 series (F20?). Not to mention, there's the optional LSD and possibly a better PPK (I'm assuming this) down the road.

I know the new car will put better numbers than the current E82. Do note that the M235i is claimed to put better numbers than the 1M and that it's replacing the 135is. The car looks pretty decent so far. The new car is supposed to weigh similar, if not, lighter than the current E82. I'm just unsure with how the car will feel but I'm sure the 2 series will beat the E82/E88 in numbers and possibly looks.

I have high hopes for the M2 but I feel BMW will neuter it to not surpass the M3/M4. It will be similar to how Porsche neuters the Cayman S to not cannibalize the 911.

I'm jealous of the LSD. I think it's a sacrilege that BMW hasn't been offering that as an option on anything outside the M line.

From talking with my buddies at BMW who get to drive these cars for their "job"... they all say the new M235i is a real winner! They like it - a lot! And, that while they love the e82 driving dynamics, the M235i is better in every way. I believe them.

They have said that the M235i feels special in the same way the M6 GC feels special/better than a normal M5/M6. Not sure why that is... but I know a lot of people have notice this with the M6 Grand Coupe.

Time will tell because they (BMW) are not looking back! As everything BMW sells, the car will be improved on each year. Their goal is to make you get out of your 1 and into the 2. The only thing that is consistent your life is change! If nobody buys the 2, look how fast the change will be!

My biggest concern would be the steering and the driving dynamics.I personally don't agree with all these driving modes( comfort, sport, sport+) in a car like the 2. I prefer just one setting that really works.

I'm sure it will be "better" in almost every measurable way. Doesn't mean it's the car to have, though. There will be compromises.

I am worried about the steering more than anything. I shall wait till the M2 comes out. They hopefully will have things dialed in by then.

Exactly.

A case in point would be the obsession with 'ring times as some sort of yardstick that BMW bosses are trying to use as a measure of 'better'.
Faster around the 'ring than a 1M won't mean it's neccessarily a better car in any 'real' way, over a 1M or even an E82 135.

Even before we see the released full spec of the car, it's already on a negative from my scoring system because of it's increase in size over the E82....

Yes, and we will all get balled up into the obligatory "which is better" arguments. E82 tifosi will scream about it being the first, size, lack of computer gadgets, etc... 2 series early adopters will scream about the latest and greatest.

Essentially, everyone will defend where they spent their $.

All good though, if it means BMW is making desirable cars. If their next car makes E82 owners a bit jealous or insecure, that means BMW did a good job, which is really what we want.

What are the "supposed dimensions"?

I thought it looked pretty small in the recent Nurburgring spy videos, very similar in size to the E82:

EPS, turbos, and speakers for engine noise?

Pass.

It's supposed to be faster than the 1M around the track and will likely have better gadgets so in that sense it'll be "better". Looks is subjective but from what I see in the spy images, it seems a little sleeker which will probably make it appeal more to a wider audience whereas the e82 seems to get polarising opinions. Then again, similar things can be said about f30 vs e90 and many people claim to like the e90 "better". Guess what I'm saying is what's better really depends on an individual's preferences and the overall package.

Who the hell actually wants the fake engine noise in their cabin anyway? I would want to hear my own engine noise, not some fake taped sound of what BMW thinks people want their engine to sound like. Makes me feel the same kind of annoyance as when people put fake M badges on their car.

It certainly has its advantages(interior looks pretty awesome on the M135i with alcantara), but it's of the F30 gen and suffers greatly as a result.

I think it will not be better, it will be completely different.

8-speed automatic and EPS will give it a completely different feel, not necessarily bad, but not as visceral.

I bet it will also be more expensive, and I am not willing to pay close to $50k for 2 series.

As for "optional" LSD, it's nice to have that option, but I would not opt for it, because I don't track the car.

From what I've I read the sound is not fake but "amplified" through the speakers.
