Question so i can understand where we stand?

suspension wise stock, how would one compare a m sport or sport package e82 suspension to maybe an e36 m3 or e46 m3.

How would our cars hold up on the track against these two?

in a comparison of the 335i vs 135i vs e46 m3

they state the 135i is right in the middle of the softer, larger 335i and the more harsh e46 m3

i only had my e46 for 8 months before totaling and i was sixteen so i really didn't have too much 'real' experience under my belt, so i dont have that much of an idea of how different my e82 varies suspension wise from the e46 m3.

please share your thoughts....

I've done a couple HPDEs in my stock 135i and am always the among the fastest in my B group. Stock 135i vs 335i, the 135i is faster, and is usually faster against the E46 M3s.

I'm going to jump up to "A" group next time out, so it will be interesting to see how the car compares to what should faster cars (typically more modified) and faster drivers.

thats good sh*t man; this was exactly a reference i was looking for, keep up the good work. based on your experience against the e46 m3's, i assume most of the passing for you is on the straights, how does our cars(135i) feel when toe-toe with an m3 through a corner? correct me if i am wrong friend. thanks

I've only done HPDEs and the passing is always on the straights (using a point-by system). Side by side is strictly verboten.

That said, it does well through the corners. It has a shorter wheelbase then E46s (and of course E92s), and changes direction more quickly.

I've been running a stock suspension, and the only place I probably give up some time, are tight hairpins. I've had to use a wider line than the M-Cars or cars with tuned suspensions. I've got a E93 roll-bar and camber plates ready to go on the car before the next outing, and that should take care of that problem.

Just to add a little. I really wish I got the camber plates earlier. I've chewed up the outside of my front PS2s pretty bad during a weekend.

read about bushings and pressed steel suspension components that are a weakness in all non-M bimmers. Include the lack of an LSD and the 135/335s start to not feel so good as you get closer to their limit. Bouncy, understeer and vague are terms that come to mind. This only shows up when you get close to their limits.

This is all with tracking in mind so don't take this as being harsh. I love my 335. \\With all of this said, I tracked a stock 135 and did like it more than my 335 in stock form. I di feel the 135 needs a lot more rubber in front. The brakes were less than impressive. Although good, they faded more than my stock setup on the 335.

BTW, the 135 was approx. 3 seconds faster than the 335 around Laguna in Motor Trend's shootout a couple of years ago. That's a lot.

The stock E46 M3 I drove was far more linear than either #35 with better track-centric handling than either. I liked the NA power at high revs and if given a choice I would choose an E46 M3 to track over either #35.

IMHO

I agree with all that was said here.

The stock bushings are too soft and the stock run flat tires suck at the track.

The lack of camber will chew up the outside of the tires pretty quick.

No LSD sucks. But while the ediff is not as good as a mechanical one it does prevent the inside wheel from going up in smoke.

If you put on the M bushings and add camber plates and you will find the car is pretty good at the track. Maybe not as good as a M car but pretty close.

I have owned 2006 e46 m3 with comp. pkg. and smg. Tracked it 7 times . Now i have 135i with dct. If i compare these two in stock form, m3 will beat 135i on the track, not by much i should add, but 135 i is a much better daily driver. After i destroyed my brand new ps2 tires i decided to modify the suspension. Took it to monticello track a coupple weeks ago. Still had ps2 tires with damaged sidewalls but i thought i could use them one more time. It was a mistake because i could only run 3 incomplete sessions before outside edges of my front tires delaminated.I was running -2.5 camber in front and previous damage to the sidewalls finished front tires. Before that happened the car was flying. No more understeer or body roll, the car was stable under heavy braking and accelaration out of corners. I didnt see e46 m3 in my group, but i think m3 would have no chance(even modifyed i think). Next time i am going to have BF Goodridge R1 tires and it should be a different stoty.
