Cracked Rim / Is This Fixable
I have a set of 19 inch VMR V710's. My tire blew out and I have a crack in the back of the rim. Please see the picture for reference. Do you think this rim can be welded without any worries? I haven't seen other rims that were cracked and can't tell if this is very minor and should be easy to repair or if it's a lost cause.

As long as the crack is in the lip and not the barrel it should be fixable. Check out AWRS and find a local approved guy in your area, and send him the pics. That way you can know for sure.

If I were you, I'd consider the price difference between a new wheel and possibly fixing it. For the amount it'll be, chances are the better buy would be just to grab a wheel and not have to worry about it.

I'd buy a new wheel and use this one to roll up your garden hose onto!
 Really that crack is huge.

You have an "ultimate driving machine." Is a $200 wheel worth driving for the next few years and wondering "what if?" every time you drive and freak out a little whenever you hit a normal bump on the road? It sucks for part of your car to damage, but I would much rather have confidence in driving my car every time I get in it. Plus, it would be rather irresponsible on your part if your wheel caved after hitting a bump on the highway, which may result with you hurting yourself or others...

I was leaning towards just buying a new wheel as well. It's $260 shipped, whereas fixing mine would run about $125. Another $135 makes more sense.
I just didn't know how this crack looks compared to others, and if it was minor or major. |

That crack is pretty bad. "Minor" cracks would be more of a hairline rather than a gaping hole.
Regardless, any crack in a wheel is a major issue that deserves serious attention. |

Buy a new rim.....Fixing yours will result in a stressed rim that will fracture again easier than a new one...Bite the bullet and spend the extra 100...I had the same issue as well and have tried the repair route vs a new rim....The new rim is your best bet and will save you money in the long run

As others have stated, replacing the wheel would be most ideal. While you can weld the crack, it's realistically just a band-aid. The wheel will crack again in the future. Sorry to see that this has happened to you though!

Buy a new wheel.
Repair the old one and put a used tire on it and have it on stand by...for emergencies. Unless you already have a spare wheel and tire and/or your stock set. |

That's the advice I generally give people too. You don't necessarily need to trash the wheel, but your best bet as far as reliability is concerned is going to be a new wheel.
